Good morning all! Especially good without the hangover or wondering what I might have said or done to hurt someone (emotionally) in an alcoholic haze.

I would like to thank everyone for your caring words and responses to my very first post on this message board. I was a little worried that it might not be what I had in mind, but it was, and much more.

I dug out the Big Book and the 12 and 12 that a friend had given me years ago. It's ironic that they were both where I thought they would be, and in like new condition--I never read them until last night!

I am very grateful for AA and will choose not to drink, just for today.

Use this forum, use AA face to face meetings, use the Big Book, use all the AA literature you can get your hands on.  Use the treatment center if necessary.  Do it one step at a time, do it one day at a time.

I have found that I need to think conciously about it everyday.  I especially need to start my day with a message from an AA source.  I also pray/meditate several times about it.  Sometimes it is just a minute right in the middle of a busy day; in fact that is when it is most important, lest I forget to guard against that "stinkin' thinkin".  The kind where I start making excuses to have "just one or two drinks".

Sobriety truly is a gift of AA, but boy, sometimes it seems we sure have to work hard at it.  Having a bunch of drunks like ourselves who will talk to each other, share their trials and successes, care about each other, and pray for each other really helps.

I pray for your serenity, peace and love between you and your family, and your success in sobriety.

Good luck, hang in there, and keep coming back.

Dan

"one day at a time" or sometimes " one hour at a time". Whatever it takes, the program works.

I try not to make promises I cant keep.

I promise you guys "AA Works"
