Why do a 90/90?

I figured I would share on something I actually have experience on.  For any newcomers that are wondering about this or people that have never done this and are wondering what use it is...

Here is what I gained from doing 90 meetings in 90 days:

1. A strong connection with my local fellowship
2. A feeling that others were rooting for me and wanted me to succeed
3.  New friends
4. New options for places to go and things to do other than drink
5. Started to understand AA was my safety net and all I had to do was make it to the next meeting and I would have another day under my belt
6.  A crash course in AA...which I desperately needed
7.  The beginnings of a good foundation for sobriety
8.  People saw I was serious and I found a sponsor very fast
9. This was part of surrendering to a higher power.  If part of me was still rationalizing about only needing to go to "X" number of meetings...I would have gone down to zero meetings a week fast.
10.  While I was able to read and do some step work, most of the knowledge I gained in the first few months was from a high frequency of meetings.  My brain was too muddled to make full sense out of the literature.  The 90 and 90 gave me a better frame of reference to begin to do stepwork.
11.  I didn't have a strong connection to God at first and I needed all the people in those meetings (daily) as my higher power until I could "come to believe" and find a more personal higher power of my own.
12.  I learned where a meeting was every day of the week and I made it so that there would be familiar and supportive faces at almost any meeting I chose to go to.

So those are just a few things I gained from doing 90 meetings in 90 days.  Of course this recommendation is not in our literature because they didn't have the amount of meetings we do today when our literature was written.  This is not meant to say that just going to meetings is the cure all either.  I highly doubt anyone would commit to 90/90 without also being willing to do stepwork.

Hope this helps someone.

Mark

90/90 is also believed to be the best way of creating a new habit.  Worked for me.
I habitually continued my meetings and got away from what it was doing before
that.   smile
