I attended AA meetings briefly when I was required to by court order several years ago. Didn't truly get the message then, because I hadn't honestly taken the first step. My wife is a great little codependant who strongly encouraged me to stop attending meetings as soon as I legally could. I love her dearly, but finally realize that I must work around her codependancy to save myself (and, quite possibly her, although she is a teatotaler). I am now ready to truly take the other 11 steps.
AA in this neck of the woods is sparse and sporadic. Of the only 2 other males who attended, one has died, and the other is far to much in need of sponsoring to be one. I had a sponsor for only one month, who then moved to another zip code, and I haven't heard from him since.
I tried to join another on-line group, but it is already closing down, due to "lack of activity".
I hope that I can find someone(s) to communicate with here.
Welcome Dan, glad you are here. That's what it takes being sick and tired of being sick and tired. It also takes going to any lengths to get sober. You are in the right place, lots of great people sharing their experience, strength, and hope.
Please keep posting and like Rick said, try to find some face to face meetings to go to. There's nothing like looking into the eyes of a recovering alcoholic, cause they know where you've been.
I stay sober one day at a time, that's how it's worked for the past 20 years.
yup, acceptance is the answer to all my problems today,
i would get a hold of a meeting list, myself, i love the out of town meetings, and get some phone numbers from the sober people at the meetings you do go to.
it only takes 2 people to have a meeting
lots of support, experience, strength and hope here
oh, and my name is Wendy, an drug addicted alcoholic in recovery, happy to meet you!
