Fear of commitment can be a roadblock to recovery.

As we proceed along the path of recovery, we are invited to make commitments. If we're following a Twelve Step program, these commitments are not demanded of us, but they are strongly recommended by people who have traveled a similar path.

The commitments of our program include abstinence, working the Steps, going to meetings, and developing a relationship with a Higher Power. If we're afraid to devote ourselves to these, our progress may be blocked. In the process of overcoming our fears, we are able to move ahead to more solid and complete recovery.

As people become more important to our emotional health, we are invited to deepen and strengthen our commitments to those whose lives we touch. This can be frightening. Is it decreased control and increased vulnerability that we fear? We need to carefully consider our opportunities for growth enhancing commitments and not be afraid to make ones that will advance our recovery.

I pray for courage and wisdom to make and maintain positive commitments.

Purpose in Life

The reward of a thing well done is to have
done it.
--Emerson

The same miracle that started our recovery from addiction gave us a chance for a second life. It also brought us a purpose in life. This was something we had lacked for years. This purpose for our life makes it possible to achieve a state of happiness and peace of mind.

This purpose is to help others. Unless our hearts are filled with the principles of our new way of life, we are not doing our best. The spiritual growth that comes from pursuing a purpose in life makes each day a joy for us and makes our existence worthwhile. Long-timers remind us, "Be as enthusiastic about your recovery as you were about your addiction."

I never want to say, "This I must do." I want to say, "This I want to do." Serving a purpose in life is only a small repayment for the gift of recovery.

"Sometimes, when youre digging a hole--you just hafta stop digging. and throw the shovel away"

This morning, I stopped on a country road, and sat on a farmers fence--watched a herd of wild deer grazing in a pasture feild.-I counted 44 in total.

Sometimes we just hafta put it on stop. I used that stop, to just let out a few sighs of saying thanku, to someone upstairs.--and to enjoy the quiet-the serene silence-and the beauty in front of me.

God does for us, what we cannot do for ourselves--if we let Him. All we hafta do is our best, and let Him do the rest.

Its nice to not hafta look for those minefields, as we step forword in life, on a daily basis.

Its nice not to hafta travel down the HWY looking for potholes are in the road.

Its just damned nice.

And yes-Im a softy-sue me. lol

Have a nice day.

Let me rephrase that statement about potholes in the road.

Be aware of potholes in the road. When we encounter them, we have a choice. Drive right into them and get bumped, and bruised--or drive around them-and let God fill them in.

Came upon a couple today, that Ide like to fill in, and cover  with cement.

The best reaction, is sometimes, no reaction.

Driving around them, and not looking back. Easy to get sucked into other peoples crap piles. If we do, we get covered with crap too.

I prefer not to.
