One of the greatest things about AA is the emphasis of family recovery. Chapters like "To wives" and "The family afterwards" have been excellent material for family recovery. Our group has workshopped these chapters in great depth and the result is evident in our relationships with our partners and our children. I have a wonderful wife who endured just 6 years of my drinking before I came into recovery. She has been a pillar of strength and support as we both worked our recovery programs and brought up our children. My children were 2 & 5 years old when I got into AA. All our family holidays were crammed into AA conventions and rallies. We would stuff our tiny car with supplies, blankets dog and even grandma and hit the road for a 1800 km journey. Our tiny Opel travelled over 260000 km before she gave up the ghost. Most of these journeys were "AA" travel. After 22 years my wife and I are starting a new journey with those that we sponsor. This weekend we have embarked on a family retreat to workshop steps 4&5. Life in AA is exciting as we continuously work with new ones. Please pray for us as we do God's work in AA and Alanon.

Thank you so much for telling us about how you and your wife are the 12th Step, personified, so happy you wrote that little background, I have a very visual mind, and in your little Opal, (story made me smile) and that breathtaking South African sky, we or rather I only get to view it in the movies, and it always just takes my breath away.....
I hope you and your wife and group have a wonderful retreat.....
