You can't go wrong with Experience, Strength and Hope.

What is was like (experience), what you're doing about it (Strength) what it's like now (Hope).

Sharing isn't a competitive sport, you don't get marked on it, so don't rehearse, don't sweat it and let it come from the heart.

Is everyone in AA obligated to get up there and tell their story? Right now that thought scares the crap out of me.hmm  I am always amazed by the people who do.

I DO gain so much insight and strength from hearing them though.  It's helped me in working the program and keeping me sober one day at a time.  I have so much admiration for the ones who do.

Good look, Attilio.  I hope one day I too will be able to do get up there and share my story.

Bill nailed it, "Our stories disclose in a general way what it was like, what happened, and what it's like now"

Don't even worry about it, just worry about the "now", just do the next right thing and take care of today, that's why we call it a 24 hour program and we say "One Day at a Time"

A simple honest message of recovery from  active addiction always rings true!!Bill hit it on the head,we don't need to be profound, spiritual, humorous,or anything other than honest about where we came from ,where we went and where we are now!!Someone will relate to your ESH....I always ask the God of my understanding to help me share a clear message before I begin and whatever I say from there just comes from my heart! Relax and carry the message of hope and the promise of freedom and take part in your own recovery!!!!smile

I don't have a problem with sharing, I think I run my mouth too much, in fact. Even so, I totally am enthralled listening to other people's stories because I identify so much with them. Everyone will love hearing from you, I promise it. You don't have to give a professional speech, it doesn't have to be like an Oscar host...everyone will be happy to hear from you. I've only been to two meetings, but trust me...I can already tell you that everyone there cares about you.
xoxo

hi everybody........just came back from the meeting iwas sharing and guess what the dates were mixed up it will be next tuesday.I have however learned a beautiful lesson from all this .You see before i got to the meeting i was sharing and the same for yesterday that is not living in the moment. My HP IS IN THE TODAY OF MY LIFE NOT IN THE YESTERDAY OR TOMMOROW.Yesterday night i was sharing and not taking care of the moment.I will try to remind myself of this experience when the fear of what may happen in the tommorow of my life creeps back in.love you big hugs to all......................

(((Seasea)))

It has to do with the number of posts we make - I think it is after 5 or 10 posts we become a "Senior Member" - I'm not sure really!

I think when we get to 500 posts we become  an "oldtimer" - I think!

I would also point out that this bears no relation to the quality of the postsbiggrinwink *giggling*

There are others here who know the system better than me - I just kind of dreamily bob along.........confuse

Ask all the questions you want here of anybody! Glad you found us !
Love Louisa xx

Great topic. Share as you see feel fit, and only if you want to. There's no rule on having to say anything. In fact, I was told that early in, for the first little bit, it's better just to listen.

But, as a few of the other folks such as Bill and LB have said, there is one sure fire framework for sharing that works every time

1) what it was like
2) what happened
3) what's it's like now.

I just used that framework tonite. Decided that I'd go by a meeting that I really like, but don't get to very often.

Go in and it's "hey, great to see you - can you do the chair (i.e. be the speaker)."

Used that formula and didn't even blink.

Hope it goes well...

Steve

I went through the same thing when I knew I had to tell my story. I also learned it was not worth worrying about until the minute before I had to do it. Then I did what I told you...said a prayer and just spoke. It's your life and your story...you know it and you can't mess up telling it cuz you lived it! I'm sure it will be great.
