Defeat may serve as well as victory To shake the soul and let the glory out. --Edwin Markham
So life has given us some dents. So what? Dents are necessary, besides being unavoidable and painful. Each dent is a part of the process that enables us to embrace life as a creative experience and to see the world in a new way, a way of compassion and understanding. Recovery is not a matter of escaping further blows or of disguising the dents we already have. It's a matter of understanding what the dents mean and how we can work with them.
Dents are neither soft spots in our characters that should make us ashamed nor saber scars that should make us proud. They are simply evidence that we have been alive for a while. Recovery offers us the chance to learn from our dents, to accept them as new spaces for growth. When we decide to see our dents as opportunities gained rather than opportunities lost, we stand much taller in our own eyes and in the eyes of others.
Today, I will look on my difficult life experiences in a new light. Today, I will plant some seeds.
dents make me look in the right place or area - they're like a hint or a nudge in the right direction for me... I've been looking away from the dents by drinking but didn't know did I! I just know I have a faith that works, one day at a time & look in the places I never 'thought' the answers would be (eg. regular AA meetings). I know the answers before I've had chance to ask the question more & more often lately - maybe it's because I'm learning to listen more than I think - literally speaking. God is there (dents?) if I am willing to hear & it blows me away daily! Awesome!
It reminds of that saying....out of ALL adversity.....you will be able to find either the good or......even the gold in it.
Life is like a hand of cards in a card came, some cards when you turn them over, you have to just play that card no matter how difficult it is.....We only get one card game in our lives, (my little analogy) and God watches us and how we treat others, when going thru tough tough times. and how it help us grow deeper wider hearts with each blow to the heart...
So I was sort of translating your Dents to Cards, my little take in my little brain..wiring..
We recovering Alcoholics, have all known some unbearable pain, and this Awesome Program is the other side of that coin, where we find, love, compassion, joy, and with God's Help, continue to find all of the above, when faced with adversity, and it sure as heck happens all the time to many....
Love and Peace to you my friend. Thank you for all your wonderful joyful Posts.
