It is my first AA convention on Sunday, and I am a bundle of nerves! I am trying to live in the day and not think too much about it - but it is there, it's coming, and it is the talk of all the meetings at the moment! Someone said at the meeting tonight that they had massive temptations to drink at their first convention. My dad (who is in the fellowship) has been saying he's worried about me going because I'm not going with anybody. I guess I'm just looking for a little reassurance - I feel very childish asking for this, but when it comes to going into new situations like this, I really am little better than a child. So does anybody have any convention experiences they would like to share with me?
Just go. Remember that God is charge of every circumstance, people or thing. Just say a small prayer:eg "God I want to go to this convention on Sunday, but I am really nervous so will you help me to go safely and come back safely, I pray." Just say the prayer and go and let God deal with the issues for you.
Aloha Lorelei...I can pass on a recovery behavior I learned that worked for me which was before I went into a situation like this to write my concerns and fears which were tripping me on a piece of paper, putting them in an envelope (optional after awhile) and tossing them in the garbage either before I left the house or just before going into the event I was worried about. "Leave it at the door...pick it back up when you leave if you want to." That worked for me. Don't let your head make too much of a nothing...no mountains from mole hills...no negative imaginations. I use F E A R. False Evidence (only) Appearing Real. Have a great convention. ((((hugs))))
In my experience you will be well looked after by both fellow AAs and your HP. I was shaking with fear at my first one ......but I didn't want to leave at the end of it! Like had been said.....pray and be yourself!.....and enjoy.......
What a beautiful time we had too, Lorelei! Thank you, Alcoholics Anonymous! All our fellowship collaborates in spirit around the world in combined spirit, I believe & I felt it all day. You must have been so proud listening to your sponsor up there on the top table, I was! I was so proud of you too & the fun we had after the lovely day of sharing to disco dancing in the night. What a thrilling vibe on the dance floor, aye! Yes, I am very proud of you, my dear sister & you're doing everything just right, for you, following your Higher Power & letting our fellowship into your life to love you while you learn & recover. You're doing great, Lady. Keep up the good work. Hope to see you Wednesday, God willing :) Love for you always 1Day@aTime, Danielle x
