People who fly into a rage always make a bad landing.
--Will Rogers

We may have learned rage at a very early age from an alcoholic parent. We may have found we could manipulate people and distance them by taking off at them like a rocket. We found they had no choice but to take cover or speedily undo what they had done to make us angry.

Today, we may feel a need to fly into a rage because we fear someone will see our human, vulnerable side. Now that we're dealing in feelings, our rage may simply be a symptom of our own frustration in the slow process of recovery.

If a mirror were placed in front of us during one of our rages, we probably wouldn't recognize the person in the reflection. We can do far more harm than good, more damage than repair, and generate more feelings of dislike than like. Do we need to fly into a rage any- more? Tonight we can treat raging behavior as a thing of the past and move on to mature, constructive behavior.

Do I remember my last rage? What did it accomplish? Tonight I can work on new scenarios for old, immature behaviors

Hi ya'll, I have always had a bad temper and would hold it in till I exploded and then watch out! Today even in recovery and working to overcome this character defect, once in a blue moon it comes over me still. the only thing different is they are not so frequent and when it happens I can find no peace until I Apoligize not for what I said but how I said it. even after making amends the best I can I still have to be prepared to not be forgiven. Today I thank God for not expecting me to be perfect.

Making amends:

This scares the living crap out of me.

I dont think I can make amends to a certain person. This person has hurt Doug(my fiance) so much. I completly flew off the handle, the rage had been building for so long... I went beserk, someting like an "irish washer women".

If a team of docs who would of wittnesed the outbust...the straight jackets would of been used on me. I was like a crazy women, even the men were scared.

How do you all feel about making amends????

It seems to be real important in the steps

Read something interesting:

"There are no elevators you have to take the steps"

The steps seem to be a slow process, which is ok with me.

Take Care

Hi

I am new here, but have been sober for 8 years.  I always held my temper, and in fact all of my emotions in tight control, until I would get drunk.  When all inhibitions were gone I would fly into a rage.  I was a true Jeckle and Hyde.  Before I could make amends I had to forgive myself.  I had to learn to love myself.  Asking forgiveness was then possible.  Acceptance of the fact that some people could not forgive me was at first hard, but the only thing I am in control of is the asking, and I have accepted those things that I cannot change.  And, yes, there is always a lot of work yet to be done and things to learn.
