I needed a program.

When I came to AA I needed a program. I already had money, clothing, shelter and food.
I needed a power by which I could live. By this time all my resources had failed me.
I could not stop drinking. It was either the asylum or death.
In the terrible depressive state that I was in, God had sent a very kind man to rescue me. He was gentle but very truthful with me. He did not tell me that I was going to die from alcoholism. I already knew that. I wanted to know if he had a solution to my hopeless problem. He did. He was sober 6 months and asked me to come to a meeting with him. That was the beginning of the sober journey.
I sometimes forget that simple encounter with my friend.
He did not need to do anything else for me.
I was on the road to recovery, despite myself and my selfish ways.
I was willing and that was all that God needed from me. The book says that He will reveal more and more to me as I walk this journey with Him. He has done so in so many ways.
I acquired a passion to serve Him and it has been one of those indescribable journeys, that can only been seen after I have walked a few miles, to see the wake of the beauty.

Thanks for that share on how you got here Gonee.  I too often look back on
how I got into recovery and have come to understand that while I am part and
parcel of a cunning, powerful and baffling disease I am also the child of someone
much more cunning, powerful and baffling who can and will take any shape, form
or necessary spirit to keep me sane and sober as long and he/she/it is sought.

Forever in awe...smile

Wow Gonee,
That is beautiful....... I am still blown away at the things my HP does/has done for me.
I feel terribly humbled and am so grateful to Him - to AA and this program too. Every day.

My best friend whom I drank with a lot actually woke me up to it as she stated "Mark, I am scared for you now. I think you need to go to AA because your drinking is getting really dangerous." When I did go, I went on my own and it was scary...but I went and am glad I did.
