Today's thought from Hazelden is: The most important move is to begin.
We begin weaving by stringing vertical threads on a loom to form the foundation of a new cloth. Then horizontal threads are interlaced back and forth, and we create a fabric. As the cloth begins to form, new possibilities open before us. After we weave in the first color we can then envision other colors that will work with it. The most important move is to begin.
Sometimes new possibilities occur to us only through action. If we take the risk of the first step and keep our eyes open, we will see the next step. Too much planning, too much carefulness and analysis, may block all action.
With our partner we might sometimes feel stuck in a pattern. We may even feel hopeless. Rather than thinking excessively, we could take action, do one thing that we know people in good relationships do. We might be able to take the risk of that first step with the help of our Higher Power. When we take one hopeful step at a time, each step produces information that leads to the next.
Name one interesting thing you can do today. You need not justify it or understand where it will lead. Just try it.
Larry, you come up with the darndest stuff!! This reminds me of 'Love Story'/'Oliver's Story'. The cloth factory, father son relationship and how a lost love can scar. You are too much, where do you dig this stuff up?
Thanks Larry. I have to remember this often. Many time when I feel "un-enthused" about working a step, starting a project, or doing every day chores, I think about this. It seems like once I make the start, or begin, the motivation seems to come and before I know it the chores are all done. When I choose to ignore this and don't make a start, the motivation to get going never comes. Thanks again for the reminder. Now it's time to get off my but and finish painting the trim in my hallway :)
aha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL Love this..... this is yet another "DUH" for us alkies, who like to make plans and then procrastinate.
I bought a bunch of objects to paint from the art store about a month or two ago. I spread out my painting stuff, drop cloth, etc..... and "got ready". And then...... I stared at it every day for about a month. Typical.
I have recently been actually MAKING the time and actively painting the stuff now, every evening, and it looks AWESOME and I am soooo happy with the results thus far!! I was doing nothing other than delaying my own happiness.
This applies to just about everything in my life.... I just keep making plans, and then sitting on my arse. Thanks for the reminder that once again WE ARE NOT ALONE.
:O)
