I had a terrific evening last night--my favorite band (yup, 54 and a die-hard Green Day fan!) was in town for the first stop on their US tour, so a friend and I met for dinner and went to the concert. It was, as always, awesome.
Over the years in the past, between my drinking and bad relationships, I'd lost touch with even knowing what kind of music it is that *I* like. One of the joys of sobriety for me has been discovering "new" (even if it's old) music that I enjoy.
My AA friend who went to the concert with me last night is about my age, and didn't really know anything about the band, but she was game and we had a blast, screaming, yelling (I'm hoarse this morning from yelling and singing along), dancing in our seats. Concerts used to be big drinking events for me, but this was my second sober big concert (first one was last summer--same band, different venue).
Thanks for the good wishes. I look at it this way--one more year till the next round of senior discounts!
