Proper Introduction

Hi my name is ferisdp and I'm an alcoholic.  I currently have 4 1/2 months sober and 4 1/2 months in the program. First time in AA and first time I've ever tried to stop drinking after about 30 years of doing so daily.

I posted last Friday about a meeting experience and never introduced myself properly.  I see there are no "rules of the board" anywhere so I'm just feeling my way around.  If I break board ettiquette please let me know, gently if possible : )  I look forward to reading and learning.

Peace,

Patrick

Hi Patrick!
there are no rules, just common courtesy will do.  and if you think someone has just bitten off your head.... well, it is not your fault.  that is on them.  you are only responsible for what you do and say.   i try to share the happy joyous and free stuff, but if i am hurting i will bring it up.  and if i have a victory in any area of my life i share what happened, what i did, and how my HP helped me get through it.  or if i really blow it, i might ask for prayer and support.
   keep coming back,
jj

Welcome to MIP

wasn't there a beer commercial about 8 years ago? went viral, was funny, they did millions of versions of it, buncha drunk guys yelling wasssuuupppppp

well here is my welcome to you, 8 years of drinking later, welcome to AA, all of us a bit older but no wiser, no pun intended (it was a budwiser commercial) anyway, watch the video, let me say

Wassssssup

Welcome to AA

BTW, I view this as "post drinking (since it was a budweiser commercial) and "change" as in sobriety, not political

Hey, Welcome.  So glad you properly introduced yourself.  I hope you find the board as supportive and inspiring as I do.  I have the opportunity to grow each day and share whether it be painful or joyful.  I find sobriety leads to ever more joyful days.   Hope to see you around.

thank you. i am feeling  a lot of support already. I did not drink last night. Other people were drinking wine and it was so tempting to drink just one sip, but I resisted and this morning  i feel so grateful.  I will not take that first sip tonight! I will think of all your comments and how you overcame your cravings. Thank you.

Have you tried quitting before?

How did it turn out?

How long did you last?

We overcame our cravings by going to AA and working the steps, good luck, and we wholly support your efforts and encourage you to go another day without drinking, but if there comes a day when you can't face life with drinking, and can't face life without drinking, and you are at the jumping off place, come see us at a meeting

Patrick, it would be useful to those that are brand new to this and contemplating going to meetings but are scared...for you to share what you are doing and how you put this 4 months together a day at a time. Please tell us what you did so others with less time can learn.
