I did that, too.... but used alcohol a lot.  loved computer games and drinking... sometimes i blacked out and played....  i can drink coffee and soda now if i play, but i drank a lot of canadian mist at the computer, or beer, or wine... it didn't matter.  i had to have alcohol in my hand or close by.  the start of realizing i am alcoholic was when i did not stop at one bottle when i knew i should have stopped at 3 drinks.  i couldn't stop when i said i would.  i didn't want to stop, ever, so i worked my way down the ladder all the way to jail.... twice.  but it got worse when i sat in front of the computer playing harmless games.
  take care, and hugs,
jj

My favorite drinking spot was in front of the computer, too. I still can spend an unhealthy amount of time online, futzing around, using it at times to "check out" the same way I did with alcohol.

Certainly wasting time in front of a computer is less destructive than drinking, but for me, it still evidences a certain reluctance to become completely involved in my own life and fully engaged with the world. Those are some of the issues I need to be working on in my recovery.

yes, Lexie, i agree, and my husband gets naggy about it.
he is all about action, go, go, go.
well, i check on family and friends, MIP, and my other favorite websites, off and on during the day. it makes him crazy.
but it would be easy to fritter the day away on the computer, for me.
thanks for being here.
jj
