90 days sober today. 89 days ago I was downing a 5th of whiskey a day.

Its really been tough, but I'm thankful for this time. The first 30 days were hell,no sleep, detox...the next 60 have been no cakewalk either. Ive really had to fight for this.
I need to redouble my efforts if I want to stay sober.

Good going MLB! not to diminish your accomplishment, but shouldn't that read "90 days ago I was downing a 5th..." as your 1st day of sobriety would be 89 days ago + today = 90. smile.gif

grats on 90 days

I need to redouble my efforts if I want to stay sober.

Well, either that or work the steps, lets see what step ten says:

This thought brings us to Step Ten, which suggests we continue to take personal inventory and continue to set right any new mistakes as we go along. We vigorously commenced this way of living as we cleaned up the past. We have entered the world of the Spirit. Our next function is to grow in understanding and effectiveness. This is not an overnight matter. It should continue for our lifetime. Continue to watch for selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, and fear. When these crop up, we ask God at once to remove them. We discuss them with someone immediately and make amends quickly if we have harmed anyone. Then we resolutely turn our thoughts to someone we can help. Love and tolerance of others is our code.

And we have ceased fighting anything or anyone, even alcohol. For by this time sanity will have returned. We will seldom be interested in liquor. If tempted, we recoil from it as from a hot flame. We react sanely and normally, and we will find that this has happened automatically. We will see that our new attitude toward liquor has been given us without any thought or effort on our part. It just comes! That is the miracle of it. We are not fighting it, neither are we avoiding temptation. We feel as though we had been placed in a position of neutrality safe and protected. We have not even sworn off. Instead, the problem has been removed. It does not exist for us. We are neither cocky nor are we afraid. That is how we react so long as we keep in fit spiritual condition.

It is easy to let up on the spiritual program of action and rest on our laurels. We are headed for trouble if we do, for alcohol is a subtle foe. We are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition. Every day is a day when we must carry the vision of God's will into all of our activities. "How can I best serve Thee, Thy will (not mine) be done." These are thoughts which must go with us constantly. We can exercise our will power along this line all we wish. It is the proper use of the will.

I have a friend of mine been sober for a LONG time, in his share he said "So every day I started eating something healthy, not a lot, I just went out of my way to eat something healthy, and I noticed after a few years, my body was healthy, so I wondered about doing that with my mind, every day I put something healthy in my mind, and after a few years I noticed my mind was healthy

You don't have to do it all today, the point is do something today, write on your fourth step, go to a meeting and reach out to a newcomer, watch your behavior and amend it where necessary (change it not apologize)

Do something nice for another human being and don't take credit for it or tell anyone

We alcoholics want it all and we want it all now, and we are by nature selfish and self centered, gimme gimme gimme no matter what it is, even sobriety, we want to Sober Gandalfs or Dumbledore's at 30 days,  my mantra is "a little more please" that is part of the disease, not part of the wellness

Take a deep breath, think about how far you have come, and don't worry about "redoubling your efforts" worry about today, do what is in front of you

Got a sponsor?

Are you going through the big book with a sponsor, taking turns reading out loud, asking questions and discussing each segment, working each step as you come to it?

Completing your 90 in 90 and maybe thinking of doing another, this time with the focus on getting commitments and helping the newcomer? thinking about beginning to give back to the program that will and is saving your life?

Aligning our will with Gods will is what we concentrate on, not bombarding our problems or sobriety with self will, which didn't work or we wouldn't be here in the first place, which, by the way just means learning how to best fit in with the world around us so we don't have to drink

congratulations, keep coming back

welp, my daddy always told me if two people tell me the same thing it may behoove me to take a good look at it, it don't mean they are right, but it warrants a good look

Wonderful !! I remember being sober 90 days. It felt like a lifetime without a drink.

Congratulations MLB and if you havent or dont already .. Please get a sponsor, find a God, and work the steps. Redoubling your efforts will prove useless if you dont follow the program of AA the way it is outlined.

And remember ... its alot easier to stay sober than it is to get sober

I dont EVER want to have to go thru that sobering up time.
