Hi all,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I've just come over from a different sobriety message board (got frustrated with what I felt was heavy-handed editing of posts by the moderator) and reading the posts here, it seems like a positive and supportive community.

I've been going to AA meetings for about 4 months, got to 60 days even, then relapsed -- my new sobriety date is June 6. I am now trying to do "90 in 90." I was lucky to not have a "low bottom" and never lost my job, home, or really anything (except probably some of my health) but once I found myself obsessing about whether I'd be able to get ahold of my two bottles of wine (at least) per night, and unsuccessfully and repeatedly trying to stop drinking for even a few days at a time on my own, I realized I really had a problem.

I've got two whippets that I adore (my avatar pic!) and a goofy 16-year-old cat. My condolences to you, Dean, on the loss of Tigger. :(

I look forward to connecting with you in this online community!

GG

hi GG
so glad you found this site.  there is a lot of hope, experience, and strength in this room to tap into.  for myself, the key to not taking that first drink is being willing to be willing to do whatever it takes stay sober.  some days i need to vent, some days i want to share, and other days i need to read and listen to grow spiritually.
hugs
jj

Welcome, that was my experience as well, one forum I attended the moderator had used the pamphlet "Questions and Answers about sponsorship" as her sponsor and sponsored others using that as the criteria

interesting

San Francisco is a great place to get sober, there are some fantastic meetings there, my two favorites were Friday night at Union and Steiner with the Al-anon meeting going on downstairs at the same time, it was always this incredible disparity walking past a roomful of crying people, walking up the stairs, and being in a room full of laughing people, and Saturday nights at a meeting called "Home Group" on 16th and Doloras, although Home Group took some getting used to, as in bring a friend because it is Fing SCARY, I heard the most amazing shares coming out of these multi pierced tattoo covered gang banger looking people, truly one of the scariest looking but most powerful meetings I have ever attended, I mean Wizard God Gandalf Dumbledore Gandhi pow'ful stuff, then coming out of the mouth of some guy with head piercings and his entire head covered with like some spiderman tatto and his name was literally "Lord"

Good meetings out in the avenues, the Haight, The Dry Dock in The Marina

The other nights I went to meetings in Marin since that is where I was living at the time

Thanks for the warm welcome and AGO for the meeting recommendations! Funny, other people have recommended Home Group to me as I'm in the south part of the city. I'll have to check it out!

Aloha GG...San Fran was a drinking spot for me from pre-high school thru and
including when I split from the city in 61.  We drank all over that bay area including
the football field at city college (at night lights out) and out at the beach (brrrr)
to playland, Golden Gate Park and down in skid row even.  Use to get the winos to
buy us underagers our booze by fronting them a quart of some super sweet wine
or the like.  We kinda slowed down and then stopped when one of them old sots
out ran us one afternoon with our money in hand.   LOL...never learned for another
19 years.  I'm sure the town has good recovery and I got sober and quit for good
down in Central Valley, Fresno.  Those people use to goose step to the program.
LOL and then I've no complaints anymore cause it works.   Stick around and get
sober with us.   ((((hugs)))) smile
