Hi everyone! Just wondering what everyone is doing to celebrate and stay sober this holiday weekend. I'm running a half marathon! It will be my 7th since I became sober. When you take away the booze you need to find something to replace it with. I felt a little lost at first without being able to go to bars and parties to drink. But now I have training and races to attend. Great group of people. Not to many drunks running around lol. Starting a poll. Let us know what your fun plans are. And my advise to those who are new and have no plans, hit meetings they don't stop for holidays!! Enjoy everyone!!
I'm not 'celebrating' anything. Since WWII more tha 626,000 US troops never saw home again, That's more than the entire population of Milwaukee or Boston.
I will honor those fallen with prayers of thanks throughout the day and honor their memory by staying sober and dedicated to my family. I will not forget that the freedom I will be enjoying is not gift from God...but a gift of blood and spirit.
Driving our boat down to Sarasota tomorrow to spend the day with a High School friend and his family. Then Sunday the wife and I are flying to NC to work on the mountain home for a week.
I own/operate a campground. Im working and very thankful to be sober to be able to do so. Believe it or not, Im having fun making money to pay bills !!
Congrats on the 1/2 marathon assuming you complete it
I usually would play some golf w/ some buds in the program, but not this week.
Will hit my Fri meeting then go to dinner w/ AA friends, then will pick up a sponcee and hit a Sat. night or Sunday morning meeting and will hit the gym at some point.
Watching the UFC fights at a AA friends house later sat night.
Taking the wife to a local Art festival and lunch one of the days and hope to spend one day completing a long punch list of yard/house chores.
Can't believe I ever had time to drink!

My son graduating 8th grade tomorrow, he has a big dance tomorrow, then bbq on Sunday with friends......some drinkers, some not!! Booze is booze, it will always be around.....don't frequent places specifically meant for boozing....but don't be afraid of the substance----be afraid about how you act when it's in your system!! Ask God or your higher power to heal you.......work a program.........share with others........and stop giving advice....hehehe!! Happy Sober Weekend!! Just enjoy party time without the booze!! God Bless those who laid down their lives for this country!!
Going fishing, it's alot more fun sober and I do it a little better also, haha (I can still fall in the river though!)
It is good to enjoy life. A 3 day weekend usually meant lot's of destroying myself, and feeling more tired and burned out afterwords than when it started. The Tuesday morning hangover won't have to be a part of my life this year.
Is it odd that I feel more engaged and in control, and it happened because I gave all of that over to my HP? There are paradoxes everywhere in this program and in a sober life, so I am done trying to figure them out, it's time to roll with it and enjoy it and be of service wherever I may go.
Meetings, cookout at the Dry Club, a swimming party and BBQ at a friend's apartment complex, Memorial Day parade in my little city complete with Air Force planes flying low overhead.... and all of it SOBER. It doesn't get any better than that!
