My Monday night group leaves for a retreat this weekend, to a resort on the south coast of Natal in SA. 22 of us alcoholics go there to do a strenuous work to help new ones with their steps. Friday night, after supper we take the 3rd step prayer together. During the week preceding the retreat the elders of the group pray for us all. Our 80 year old father of our group with 41 years of sobriety, goes to the local chapel every morning to pray for us. Our other elder with 33 years of sobriety, will lay his hands on our newcomers and pray for them. I have been blessed to be here with them. Saturday morning, we begin on the 4th step in earnestness. Most of this work has been done in our workshop meetings. Saturday night is 5th step sharing for our new ones. Sunday is a closing meeting. Our newcomers grow and do not relapse, because they have cleaned house and have had a profound change in character. The steps work.
PS: Strange as this may sound, not a word of profanity within this group of the sickest of the sick. God works.

p.s. Im very pleased to hear that the swearing and cussing is not a problem. It baffles me that some still need to use foul language to articulate what they want to get across. In keeping with the 3rd tradition, I also feel there is or should be a desire to change. When I got sober I left my bar mouth at the bar.
