An informal poll on how did you get to AA?

A short time ago Dean started an informal poll on Quitting drinking.

I would like to start another one about how did you get to AA.  This is just for fun to see what the demographics of the MIP members is.

Select which number fits you best.

1. Came straight to AA was sick and tired of being sick and tired and asked for help. Found out I belong and stayed

2. Went to  Rehab and they introduced me to AA. Found out I belong and stayed

3. Was ordered by the Court / Judicial system to AA.  Found out I belong and stayed

4. My family, my employer or others did an intervention and I was forced to AA.  Found out I belong and stayed

5. Other

When I say "Found out I belong and stayed"  Does not mean you to ask whether you had a relapse.

I am a #1,

To me it does not matter how we got here what matters is why we stayed

Larry,

I also don't care how/why you got here, any way you arrive at AA is the right way.

hmmm.. I don't think I fit into any of those categories.

((edit: after re-reading I noticed the explanation about option 1 and the other catagory. Maybe these were added later?

Anyway, I am a #1))

Hi Larry,

I would have to say #5. Other, by my fingernails, short answer...biggrin  Had to come back and get serious, I asked a God that I did not understand, then, to show me a different way....
Have not had a drink since, In His Infinite Wisdom showed me how to at last go back to AA and Stay, sit and listen, and then follow the outlined instructions.  Many say they found God in the Rooms of AA, and Some say that God was there first, leading the way, either way, once again, does not matter, just one day at a time, the Life I live today, is Only by God's Grace, and then AA and the Formula of the 12 steps, that showed me how to do the work, get vigorously honest, work the Steps, still work them when I need too....

Great Post, thank you for all you acitivity, and wisdom that you add to this amazing MIP Forum.

Agree, it simply does not matter in the "How", the Miracle is that we stayed!!

Thank you God for our/My sobriety, that I never take for granted. Just for today...

Love and Hugs, Toni

Larry, I got to AA through divine intervention. I had not even heard of AA. I was sick and tired of being sick. I asked God for help. A friend of mine phoned me out of the blues and asked me if I wanted to stop drinking. He got through to me by "mistake."
The man he was originally looking for, stayed sober for a while and stayed drunk. My friend himself got drunk after 8 years of sobriety.
I always kept my faith in God. He has been my Friend ever since. The kindest and the most loving Father, who has seen to all my needs over these years. Thank you for starting this post. You brought back a sense of gratitude to me.

1, for sure.... the first time at age 20, the second at age 30, then again at the present age of 47, for what I hope is for good, a day at a time!

Hey Larry, I'm a number 4. Mom was already an AA member and made me agree to go to a meeting if she got me out of the county drunk tank (age 15). You should have a #6 for "it took years of going in and out relapsing till I finally got the gifts of willingness and desperation, and surrendered to this simple program.

#2 By the Grace of God and his mercy. I didn't think that I was a alcoholic when I enter the rooms of A.A. I went because the treatment center took us. I kept coming back and one day at a time a moment of clarity hit me( by going to Step Study and Big Book study meetings) I am a alcoholic. I too must have this thing! I am grateful for the 12 step program of Alcoholics Anonymous. Keep Coming Back!

#1 - although I had prior knowledge of AA, and went to a couple of meetings with my dad when I was maybe 10 years old.  I really didn't know what to expect though, when I came through the doors for myself.  I felt a strong attraction, as well as curiosity about how you people lived, and could be happy without drinking.  And that part about keep coming back - not because you wanted my money.
