People with chronic pain

Hello All,

I am note sureif this is the place to tell info to but here goes.
Canadian Federal government has passed a ruling that Pain sufferers getting freezing shots can not get more than 25% of the regular treatment anymore.  What do I do now?????  So many people that don't take narcotics will now be forced to.

Please reply.

Yours in Recovery,

Kathy W.

Kathy,

I am not a doctor and I do not have fibromyalgia so I checked the Mayo Clinic web site.  The URL is below

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/fibromyalgia/DS00079/DSECTION=treatments-and-drugs

They do not mention narcotics for pain relief.  You may want to check the site out.

My prayers are with you.

Oh Dear!! Fibro is awful, so sorry you have to suffer with that. Whatever has led you to believe that you are now doomed, you need to do some more research. Good luck with things.

(((((hugs))))))

I didn't know it was fibro you were talking about, so HELLO from a fellow fibromite.  I take quite a concoction of pain relievers and muscle relaxants etc. and to be perfectly honest, if I needed narcotics in order to keep the pain at a reasonable level I would take them AS PRESCRIBED, I didn't get sober to be bed-ridden in chronic pain.

I also have a TenS machine for localised pain, which is absolutely wonderful, but I have heard many people say they tried it but don't like them, or they didn't work for them.

Here's a great website which is a message board where you can chat with others with fibro, M E and other chronic pain conditions.  http://fibrohugs.com/

Our Government has always been behind your FDA by 10 years or so.
I also suffer from TMJ and migrains.  Now we can't even get shots in any part of our heads!!!  Wonderful !!!

Who knows, maybe my Higher Power is preforming miracles that I don't realize yet.  Wouldn't that be great!!!!!!

IF anyone knows of Ontario, Canada sites, please let me know.

Kathy,

It is electrical stimulation.  Some times it is very effective at calming pain nerves.

Don't know if you have ever heard of the Cleveland Clinic, but it is one of the BEST of the best here in the U.S. and in my area and I have worked under soe of its docs, and while there a wealth of treatments on their website listed that are NOT medications, these are what it lists as drug types used to treat your condition. You might want to print this out and take to your own doc in Canad to discuss, it is from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation website at

http://www.clevelandclinicmeded.com/medicalpubs/diseasemanagement/rheumatology/fibromyalgia-syndrome/#cesec8

Classes of Drugs Used in FMS :
Anxiolytics
Growth hormone injections
Nonselective serotonin reuptake inhibitors
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
Opioids
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors
Sleep aids
Tricyclic antidepressants
Trigger-point injections with lidocaine

That said, please post back here and let us know how you are getting on, and what you might try next to manage your pain. It could certainly help others here, now and in the future.
Take care,
Joni

Pretty accurate Larry, they are used extensively for women in labour, and on Racehorses if they have limb/ligament/muscle conditions which are painful.  If you want to know more, here's a couple of sites all about them.  I never go anywhere without mine.

http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=tens%20machines&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi

http://www.patient.co.uk/health/TENS-Machines.htm

Their full name is Trans-cutaneous electrical nerve stimulator, apparantly, the impulses work on the nervous system whic tells the brain you do not have pain, so you have to be very careful how and when you use them, for instance, if you suffer from back problems/pain, it's NOT a good idea to connect the tens and then go out digging the garden. no  no
