Meds Working

Hi

New Meds seem to be to working.  I am not under as much stress and am sleeping a lot better.  No more waking up 2 or 3 times during the night and no more nightmares like I used to, this while being on the Celexa.

Just have to watch out the time of night I take the Xanax though, took one Monday night and then slept in until almost 11 a.m. on Tuesday, luckly I did not have anything going on that day.  I am not taking it every day.

Thought you all should know, been on it for 1 week today.

Oh, and finals are coming up with my college classes so may or may not be on as much as I normally am.

So, do not worry about me, my boyfriend does that enough for everyone.

Wow!

1. You informed your doctor you were alcoholic

2. He prescribed MEDS for you with a full understanding of your condition

3. You are taking as directed

4. They are working well for you

Doesn't get much better than that.   I am happy for you

Good luck with your finals, Karen!
My doctor (we're also friends and he knows my everything) describes my Celexa/Xanax combo like this;
"The Celexa is to keep you from hurting yourself. The Xanax is to keep you from making other people want to hurt you." smile.gif

Congrats on your continuing sobriety.

Peace,
Rob

My personal opinion ONLY---not medical advice---just a concern that you be SURE that you are confident that your doctors really are sufficiently trained in recovery-based medicine. Xanax short-terms seems to pose no problem, but on a long-term basis, there is the likelyhood of addiction. Person starts out with alcoholism, depression, and an anxiety disorder and ends up with alcoholism, depression, anxiety, and a serious prescription drug addiction (the Xanax, not the Celexa). In some cases, Xanax withdrawal is hell on earth (I worked in hospital-based detox for years...coming off Xanax really is a rough one).

That said, isn't it WONDERFUL when these combos DO work!! My doc is reviewing my psych meds now--she is very competent in recovery-based medicine---and instead of being wary, I am actually looking forward to what hopefully will be some additional help with my multiple conditions. Restoration to sanity and long-term sobriety are what keeps me alive!
