Day 5 Sober
Permalink

Just privately messaged with my now sober alcoholic friend on Facebook.  He has been sober for 2.5 years now.

Sober today and want to be.  It is such a change of behavior.  It is like you have to learn how to do things over again.  I have been keeping busy.

There is an annual event at my husband's work next Friday.  It is a barbeque and the beer flows freely.  A ton of people always come and it is a big day for sales.  I WILL NOT be going.  My husband is cool with it.  When I told my now sober friend about it he said yeah......don't go.  He said it took him a year to put himself in a situation like that.

When I was running on my treadmill this morning I listened to that song Sober by Pink like five times in a row.  Let out a lot of steam.

Hope all are doing ok today.

Well done. You have the hallmarks of a good recovery. People that still fantasize about going to parties have not yet come to realize the power of alcohol. I refused to please any body. Those that really care about us and know our past, will encourage us in our recovery. Keep it up. Make meetings. Get on to doing the steps of recovery.
God bless,
Gonee.

Hi Franny,                                  AWESOME!

Good for you, and when someone asks about what needs to be changed in our lives when we get sober, the answer is always...oh let's see...oh yeah now I remember, it is EVERYTHING.... (just playing with the words, well not the last one:)

You dear, sound so committed and that is awesome.

Sounds like you have a real winner in the support of your husband. and not attending that function, by making that decision, so great to hear.

So wishing you the best Franny, and sending you  one Big Fat Sober Hug!!

Well done Franny.

As Just Toni said we change everything but remember NOT ALL AT ONCE.

Change takes time and work but the results are sure worth it.

Great decision on the picnic and Kudos to your hubby for his support.

Larry,

An alcoholic comes apart spiritually, mentally and then physically. You put him back together again in the reverse order. You can put him back together physically in a comparatively short time. It takes a much longer time to put him back together mentally, and a much, much longer time to get him together spiritually. (Fr Hilary D.)

I look forward to hearing about your daily accomplishment Franny. you help more people then you know by writing and your strength shines thru!!! Great decsion on the picinic. It wont be forever that you have to skip things. Just give yourself some time and you don't have to go and be super woman if an event makes you uncomfortable. I now find that certain funtions don't make me want to drink but I don't want to go and watch a bunch of crazies act like fools. Makes me nuts now. Keep up the good work and keep posting!! You help me stay sober!

Yay! Good for you. I have to skip a party tonight too. (Well I don't HAVE to, but I think it's best.) I am going to add that pink song to my ipod.

Another good one I like is "Sober" by Kelly Clarkson. Different song... I just love Kelly's voice.
