Day one done!

Thanks everyone for all the support after going to my first meeting.  I went to another one yesterday, got some phone numbers and met a few more people more my own age, which was nice.

Just got through my first 24 hours (now on 36 hours thank you very much) and going to another meeting tonight, then home to read and watch LOST.  Picked up the big book from my mom.  I wanted my dad's old copy.  I found out yesterday that my dad's sobriety date was actually April 9th.  I went in on April 11 and had day 1 april 12.  At the moment I was going into my first meeting, my dad's best friend called my mom to check how I was doing.  My dad died 8 years ago.  We hadn't heard from his friend in a couple years.  I feel like my dad knows and is checking in on me.  I still wish I could get his advice.  Found out from my mom he had 35 years sober, not 29.  Good lord.  His sobriety was older than I am.  That's pretty cool.

So I didn't think I'd be able to get to sleep but I was so emotionally exhausted I sacked out at 10:30.  I woke up every couple of hours though.  Usually I would drink until I could pass out and then sleep through the night and wake up at 7:30.  Well I slept fitfully and couldn't drag myself out of bed til almost 8:30.  I'm still exhausted.

My face looks puffy too, which I resent!

Well done. Must be great to know that your Dad got sober in AA. My Dad did not get sober. He died when I was 15. You can make the difference to the future generations. I got sober when my son was 2. He's now 23 and a very good boy, involved in his church.

Work the steps, get a good sponsor, and make meetings and you will get well.
God bless,
Gonee.

I'll second the great. Just remember: it gets easier. (then it gets hard, then easier, then hard, then much easier, then a little harder, then very easy, then....) There's a lot of physical healing we alcoholics must endure along with the mental/emotional/spiritual healing. It's cool that you got someone sober looking down on you!

Yes

I'll be VERY surprised if you don't feel amazingly lifted after your meeting, hang in there

I remember hearing an old guy share about going to AA and being "brainwashed"

He said, "What makes you think your brain DOESN'T need a good washing???"

always cracked me up, because it's true, it always feels like someone washed my brain after a meeting, whether I enjoyed the meeting or not, I'm always smiling and feel lifted up when I walk away

Beautiful, White! It gets better and easier. Feel good about what you're doing, but beware Pride...as it cometh before a fall.

Peace,
Rob

Congratulations, You got the hardest part behind you.  from here on it gets better although in the beginning it resembles a rollarcoaster ride with highs and lows but the trend is upward and eventually those hills and vallys smooth out.

Hang in there.

What an inspiring start....like possible your genetics that cannot be changed, with your Dad's success, sounds like you might have an edge of those genetics having a Heavenly direction superimposed right on the top of them.

Great start, and looking so forward to watching walk your road of Happy Destiny with us here.

We love you!!! And thank you for sharing your new beginning with us....

Rolly Coaster, growing pains, but it will level off to just one calm day at a time.

Hugs again, and again Welcome to your new family here at MIP.

Toni
