Good morning everyone,

Went to a meeting last night and left with great feelings about the world. Funny how one little thing can change my whole aspect on life. What was great was that one kid from the treatment center spoke up and made us older, but not necessarily wiser, folks sit up and think about things for a change.

What she said was this...You guys always tell us to get to 90 meetings in 90 days and get a sponsor, but noone has ever said exactly what a sponsor is. How do I get one? What do they do? (At this point I'm thinking " Duh!! Why in the heck would she know this?")

So we had a meeting about sponsorship...what to look for, what to expect, etc...

Just thought I'd ask you all out there...How did you find your sponsor? I'll go first...

After about a month in recovery a woman asked if I had a sponsor yet. I said no, I thought I was doing ok on my own. She turned to a lady sitting behind her and said...she thinks she can do this on her own...and laughed. About 2 nights later I called her and asked her to be my "temporary" sponsor. 4 years later she is my best friend, someone I call not only when things are going to hell but also when things are just things. It wasn't always like that though, the first year she kicked my butt through the steps and held me accountable for my actions. She is probably the one person I would most like to be like...her whole life is God and recovery. It shows in her face. Thank God she ticked me off when she laughed at me...I wouldn't have had the courage to call her otherwise.

Love,cheri

Cheri, Yes, we sometimes forget that the newcomer doesn't understand all the terms and lingo. I prayed and prayed for God to show me who to ask to be my first sponsor, and he answered my prayer one day when I looked in the eyes of the woman who I finally ask. She was just what I needed, very spirtual and patient. I have had several sponsors over the years and they were exactly what I needed at that time in my life.Right now I don't have a sponsor ,as mine has moved and we don't call each other. I'm praying, we don't have many women in our group,soooo...God will send someone .

(((Hugs)))
