The AA Promises

If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through.

We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.

We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.

We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.

No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.

That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.

We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.

Self-seeking will slip away.

Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.

Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us.

We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us.

We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.

Are these extravagant promises?
We think not!

They are being fulfilled among us - sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.

They will always materialize if we work for them.

Took me awhile to figure it out that these particular promises would in fact come true for me after I had made the 9th step ammends. And they have, every single last one of them has materialized in my life in one aspect or another.

Going to the Ppl I had harmed was in fact a painful step and I was very fearful to have to face these ppl . But do the step I must or else ...
Thank God for the guidance of good sponsorship to help me thru it all.

A lot of the promises came true for me well before completing the 9th step, which I think that we're never done with. It's my favorite part of the meeting, when these are read.

I'm working Step 9 at the moment. It was really inspiring when I realized that the Promises come after that Step, if we are painstaking about this stage of our development. I'm not there yet, but now I believe that I will be, IF I work it.

This is by far my favorite part of the meetings I attend... we usually read it just before the meeting is closed... I just love it... like Dean they started coming true for me before the ninth step.

I think the reason I like hearing them at meetings is because it is a reminder that I can lose it all without working my program

I was so self-absorbed when I came into AA...in my head constantly...that one particular promise about losing interest in selfish things and gaining interest in fellows came true from something other than just steps...it came from being "a part of." A part of a wonderful fellowship that I never had before.
