well i went back to drinking and my inner demons just took over again...  i am more addicted to alcohol more then ever now. Last night I was going to fight my brother and his friends  i was so bad i started socking the brick walls ( totally stupid and paying for it right now , cant hardly type) ...

i realize this is not a way to live so i am doing a 90 days promise to GOD and myself to stop drinking.. i say 90 days because i think it is a resonable goal. IF i complete it i might just do a year straight ... and so on .

wish me luck ill deff be more active ..
good thing i saved this link biggrin

Hmmm why promise God something that only he/she/it can deliver? wink.gif

How bout this instead, make a commitment to go to 90 meetings in 90 days, and leave the results up to God?

Charlie, it does sound like you have good inner resources for quitting, especially when you bring in your spirituality. For these reasons it would seem that you would have better odds being abstinent and staying abstinent if you went the route of AA. Of course, I am going to suggest that to anyone with a drinking problem, you realize, because that is what worked for me. I hope you give it a try just for the sake of building a quality sobriety that you wont ever want to give up to go back to drinking again. In support,

Mark

Charlie,
I'm new to this site, although I have been sober a while.  I'm glad you found your way back; not everyone does.
I used to try bargaining with God----"Get me out of this one & I'll never do it again," I cried as I clung to the porcelain and puked---and it never worked very well.  I will suggest that your Mother is still alive because her time hadn't come--not because you stayed sober for a year.  Somehow I cannot believe you have that much power over life or death outcomes.  And now you're planning on a 90-day recovery?  Sorry, Charlie, but sounds more like you are planning to drink in 90 days.  As I see it, you've either surrendered or you haven't.  I tried your trick, too:  I'd stop long enough to get better so I could go out & begin again.
That said, I've met very few people who came to AA with abiding and eternal faith in God or HP; most of us, it seems, "came to believe."  I'm not questioning your intent, but I will suggest that you have omitted your own footwork in this process.  The BB says that "...having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps..."  My own experience was that I needed to apply myself to the steps, and the result was a spiritual awakening.  I believe it is a rare case---though there are some---that occurs prior to doing the work.

Charlie,
I've always heard that only the people who want to stay quit have drinking dreams.  I cannot state that is the absolute truth, but I know I never had those dreams while I was drinking.  My personal opinion is that those dreams were a reflecting of my own struggle---and if I hadn't cared about getting sober I wouldn't have been struggling.

Charlie,
Drinking dreams were normal for me.  Still are.  Now they tend to be oh shit, I shouldn't be drinking......... more than just drinking and having fun.  The fun left my drinking a long time ago.  I've heard enjoy the drinking dreams because it's the only place we can drink in safety, but if we think we can drink in safety were dreaming.  wink

Good point you tapped into Mike...reminds me of that saying "At first drinking was fun, then fun with problems, then just problems." I've had odd dreams of being in meetings too...now that's friggin weird.

good advice thanks..
My brother omar is a real bad alcoholic ...
he drinks a lot a lot..

i will always pass judgment on him saying i will never be like him i just drink to have fun !!! Now all my younger brothers and sister say you are just like him if not worst because you want to do violent things ... weird because when we are sober i am the more laid back guy.
