just so you know, the pic is of my son and myself at our local alano club. We both volunteer down there. my teenage son has been coming to meetings with me since he was a baby..he has had his own troubles and program has helped us both..now he quotes stuff at me and shocks the heck out of me at times!! out of the mouth of babes..! very mysterious stuff the way the higher power works at times ...lol ..lately he calls his higher power "the force" ...use the "force "Mom..turn it over to the "force" i laugh my butt off when he does this..just wanted to share this..big hugs to u all :)
That's great! My son (11) calls my new-found serenity & acceptance speeches "That alcoholics club stuff." but admits that he prefers it to drunken ramblings and irrational over-reacting.
Aloha Cindy...You guys got Alateen in the area? Its great when they get together and share recovery without the "old people" hanging over their shoulders or "having" to attend our meetings. Same steps...same traditions...service positions but just for them. I'm grateful for your post as it brings back 9 years of service I did for the Alateen program in earliest recovery. I have untold gratitude for what that did for my own recovery which lead up to my entering the doors of AA from a purely Al-Anon program. I was at a service meeting last evening and there were a couple of those critters in the room also. They need what we have and they need to get it from each other. "The Force" hearing that made my own HP seem a bit tiny yet still more conceivable. Thanks for the share. (((((hugs)))))
I think it's good to involve our children in what we do and to watch them learn from our example. My wife and I are both sober members of AA and we do a lot of service work. One year we were attending the Area Assembly which was being held at the same university where our daughter was studying music. We spoke to her about in an apologetic way, like we hope none of your friends see us doing this AA work because we don't want to embarass you. She said are you kidding? I tell all my friends about the wonderful work you guys do in AA. They're very proud of you for what you're doing and so am I.
