God or Higher Power Moment
Permalink

Thought I would share a couple of experiences that happened recently.  I like to call these god moments or god working in my life.

On Saturday I took my snowmobile out on the trail.  I've done this several time over the past month.  I've gone as far as the nearby lake and then turned around and came back.  I was to cautious and afraid to cross the lake.  Some lakes are safe around here, some not so safe.  On this day I had all afternoon and really wanted to cross the lake and take up trail on the other side.  There were plenty of tracks on the lake but I was still cautious.  On this day I asked god to help me with a decision of whether I should cross or not, then let it go.  When I got to the lake there was a machine coming off the lake and the women stop me.  She wanted to know where the trail I just came off of went?  I told her.  I then asked if the lake was safe and she said yes.  She drilled a hole recently and there was a foot or more of ice.  Now this wouldn't have seemed so significant but I been to the lake about 6-8 times and never seen another machine?

I've been asking god recently for the willingness to change my eating habits for better health.  This morning my old habit of getting a meat omlette sounded good.  My heart told me my fiber rich cereal would be better.  On the way to the cafe I thought maybe hard boiled eggs would be good.  Got the cafe, no hard boiled eggs.  My heart told me to do the right thing- cereal.  I went to the refrigerator- no milk?  Then I opened the door and looked way back- yes, 1 skim milk left.  Skim is my brand.  No other milk to be found.  No 1%, 2% or whole milk.

So did drinking the healthier cereal and milk help you to cross the lake? smile.gif

Mike-
Thanks for posting this stuff...  I have real struggles with the HP thing.  I believe there is a higher power, but I'm not so sure I believe it's a higher power that cares...  Hearing how other people see signs of a caring God helps me open my eyes to the things happening around me.
Be well,
Laurie

Good stuff Mike. Valuable for me to hear how God is working in others' lives and all around me. Laurie, that exact same quote literally came from my mouth in the beginning..."I believe in a higher power but I am not sure it cares about me." My faith changed over the course of going to countless meetings and feeling the spirituality there. I saw recovery working for others. I saw God in the process of the people helping each other. I then started seeing the world differently. I now believe good things happen when I trust healing, recovery, one person helping another....those things are divine. I used to think God just sort of kept everything in balance and was sort of removed from individuals. I thought it would be haughty to think God noticed or cared about me with 6 billion other people on the planet. I now believe God does keep things in balance, but God is in me when I help you and when I allow healthy energy to flow into me. God keeps things in balance and by that standard, God does want me to be balanced too. Hence, God cares about me. This is how I came to believe as of this day.

Mark

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions.

One day after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened, and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. He cried out, "God! How could you do this to me? " Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island! It had come to rescue him! "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied.

It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of our pain and suffering. Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of God.

Isn't there one about a rooster or something, too?  Dated a sober guy in my early 20s who sent it to me once...  I think he said it was from AA.  If you know it, I'd love to hear it again!

Dunno if you will find what you're looking for here, but this site has downloadable Bob Earl mp3's

http://www.healtalk.com/public/38.shtml

Also, whist browsing I found this interesting site, for anyone interested in early AA History, it lists all the very early members, such as Ebby T
