Great little book, if anyone hasn't heard of it.. has over 500 sayings and slogans collected from A.A. meetings. It can be ordered from Hazelden, 1-800-328-9000 (1-651-213-4000 outside the U.S. and Canada) www.hazelden.org
Anyway, I was wondering what good little tidbits others have heard in meetings that may not be in this book.
Today I heard a good one:
"I kept thinking my problems could be fixed by me, but now I realize that I have to get 'me' out of the way."
I have that book. It's funny how I relate to different things in there as time goes on. I pull it out on occasion. I wish I could remember something original cause I love these types of threads. Alas, I've always been the gal that couldn't remember a single joke or witty original saying. Part of my recovery is disolving the serious coat.
Well I do have a story I heard this weekend, that's perfect for the serious minded over-achiever:
Father Tom related: after a seminar a newcomer, who looked as if she hadn't smiled in about five years, came to him to talk about Step Two-asking God for help. She figured as a priest, he would have a good idea how to talk to God. She wanted to know how to ask for help the right way. He told her, tongue in cheek, sit down, be very still, breathe deeply, focus and say, "Help." If that is too much, do all of the former, except instead of speaking, wave your white hanky slowly and repeatedly.
Now I think it's great to take my recovery seriously; it's my life at stake. But I was laughing belly style, because I've wanted to do my recovery the right way, from day one.
Working on the one-liners, Angela
