During my drinking career, several people made comments about my drinking or things that i did while I was drinking and I quickly forgot about them.  But after an incident   a close friend of mine said  "you're sick and you need help".  That really got to me and set me on a path toward sobriety.

Hey Dean! I also can remember at the beginning of the end people telling me I needed help and was dangerous and would die if I continued going my way.Im sure all these words and actions from these people(dragging me out of cars, caring for me after blackouts etc)all flashed before me when I finally surrendered. Some of these same people didnt believe me when I said I was done and only a couple lived long enough to be part of my life in recovery. It is that miracle that allowed us to 'remember some of those things while losing years of our lives..'You are a sickening drunk" words I heard but would not hear and words I never did forget....Ditto for me Dean,we must never forget where"we came from" thanks my friend!

Yeah...after seeing my smashed up car, my best friend said "I am scared for you now. You need to go to AA." So I went.

Bosses to me...
"We love you, we value you and frankly we couldn't imagine this place without you. however, the future we're imagining if you keep going the way you are...doesn't have you in it."

Or wife to me...
"Do whatever you want, but my kids will not live in the same house as an alcoholic."

my missus, having been called by the police ' no, lock the bastard up and throw the key away, I'm done with him.'

my first thought was Oh shit, how do I get out of this now? That was at 3 a.m.

Then the doctor said (after I told him I drink a bit) I'll book you in to see a drug and alcohol counsellor, but they won't be able to see you for 6 months. I think you won't last that long, so ring this number, now get out. (10 a.m. same day)

about 3 p.m. that day, 'well if you think you got a problem, why not come to a meeting and talk about it'

I was in my first meeting at 7:30 p.m.

My missus about 2 years later - 'thank you.'
