A friend's daughter lays in a hospital tonight after undergoing surgery to correct injuries to her 'broken' neck. These the result of an auto accident over the weekend. Alcohol related!!!!! She is only 17 and her female passenger 15. (Not sure about the other girl's injuries) A high school senior, cheerleader, honor student........and a child!!! A child, naive to the possibilities of illness, serious injuries, and death......the REALITIES of the harm that alcohol CAN do!! A gouge to an eyelid that is thought to have caused no harm to her eyeball/sight, a broken leg, and I don't know what else. Reports are that there may be more surgeries, yet, unclear for what. An adult in deep for buying it. (Rumor has it the person has been id'ed.) Not to speak of legalities over the vehicle itself as the girls 'swiped' it from a school mate. Another reminder....... Please whoever your HP might be put in a word for her, her family and everyone involved in this tragedy!
Wow. It is sad how sometimes high school fun turns into tragedy. My prayers for the family. A similar incident happened when I was a junior in high school and one of my classmates who was a cheerleeder and all that you described lost her life as a group of girls was skipping school, speeding, and going out to lunch in the middle of the day. Sad.

Yes I will definitely pray for her and family and all involved...!(If possible could you put her first name as I try and present my petitions to God with a persons name, just something I do.If not no problem. How many times should we all I have been taken out in similar situations...?.

I can relate to that too. While still in school right near memorial day, we had senior skip day--if it was warm enough, there were numbers who went out to Lake Michigan.
Later in the day we heard about 2 different accidents both alcohol related 5 in one and 8 in the other. Of the 5 one, only 1 person survived-the force had pushed that one to the floor and the others were on top and everything else caved in on the others--single sedan type vehicle rollover. Of the 8 one, only the front seat ones were killed-3, the others were in the back-this was a van hit head on from a truck.
Needless to say skipping was outlawed unless you had permission from parents and someone knew where you were going and who you were with. They told teachers to have test, quizzes or plenty of in class work that was doubled graded and penalties if you missed it--unless excused.
Enough said. I was asked a number of times to go out to lunch with people that had their license only a few days--I am glad I never did--there were countless accidents from speeding or taking turns too tight trying to get back in time for class after lunch--many lost their license faster then if they had been drinking.
Yes to the prayers...Somehow I survived it and might that mostly mean some who had me survive it for it's purpose. I pray there will be a positive purpose in her event also. Its really hard at times accepting the survival and then the reality is that I'm still here. I'm not a ghost writer; or.....?
I have been praying too, I pray that once she recovers from her injuries, she will realise that alcohol caused it and get some help to fully heal. God Bless Her and her family and friends. Has there been any progress?

UPDATE: For some reason I had my friend's daughter as 17. Suppose it doesn't make that much of a difference, she is 15, as well as was the other girl. C. has had 5 surgeries since I posted. the major ones: fix the vertabrae in her neck, pins in her thigh bone, and plastic surgery to repair damage around her eye. Most of her cheek bone was crushed. Thank God....her eyeball/sight, they are pretty certain was not damaged. Right now the eyelid is sewn shut until most all is healed in that area. The other girl is bruised but out and about. Has had enough time to see lawyer! Yes, there may be some big time lawsuits over this deal. She was the one driving and is trying to say that they switched places. DUMB!!!! No I wasn't there to know this for a fact......I just know that she wouldn't lie. She has always been very honest and close with her folks. They talk about everything. Anyway....witness seen her behind the wheel. back to C. She is now in like a critical care rehab part of the hosp. Ventilator was taken off the day after the last surgery. Prayers still going up that the road to full recovery continues without gliches. thanks to everyone for the prayers!!!! Wanda
