Hey Friends,
I'm sick...and I don't do sick well. I think Biker Bill once called The Common Cold "Man Flu". I'm there.

Worst part about it for me is that usually before I even know that I'm sick I get hit with a huge wave of depression or some other irrational emotion. Bad stuff.

Well, I just got up to eat. Now it's back to bed & Mythbusters.

Best,
Rob

Rob-
Sorry you're not feeling well.  I laughed when I read the "Man Flu" thing.  So fits what goes on in my house, too!  Hope you're feeling better soon.  Oh, and Mythbusters is great!

Rob I sympathize heartily.  I loath being sick.  I'm completely miserable with a cold.

It's crazy, every one around me has been sick for months.  I usually get at least 3-4 colds per year.  I haven't been sick once since I quit the juice.  I am utterly grateful because before sobriety, I would down the syrups and drink booze essesively to  "feel normal", AND still smoke tons of cigarettes.

Do all the things they say mom's recommend. Mythbusters would make my head hurt more!  How about really fluffy TV?

All this confidence aside, I have to have some deep digging below the gum line on some molars on Thurs.  Normally, I'd rely on some narcotics, but am feeling uneasy about that, and alternately terrified of just going it with novicain.  I cry nearly everytime I'm at the dentist, even for a basic cleaning.

I'll trade hugs here for some on Thurs.

Feel better soon,
Angela

See, you are not alone, again smile.gif

I too hate being sick with a cold or flu. Because I know that I need to rest, lay around on the couch or in bed, drink lots of liquids and basically dont accomplish anything.
Hmmm ... reminds me of a hangover day.

I am normally a very active person and when I am sick, I feel useless.
Being sick reminds me of wayyyyy to much when I was drinking, but also gives me the opportunity to be grateful that Im only sick cuz' I caught a bug or virus somewhere, Im not sick cuz' I was drinking.

Get better soon, take care of yourself and pray smile.gif

great things about man flu when you're sober.

You know it won't really last forever.
You know it's not really fatal.
you know it's really a real illness, not self inflicted.
you know what to do about it
you know when you're getting better
you do recover quicker
you will look after yourself properly
you get to eat lot's of soup
you don't have to man up - you can just be off it
you can legitimately spend two days in bed
you can watch trash TV if you want - because there's nothing else on
you can catch up with all that step work you been putting off - well at least you can think about it
you'll probably smoke a lot less
you can write about it here

Ugh. Feel better Rob. I can identify of course. Being sick in early sobriety meant too much time in my head for me. Just remember to do things other than think too much.

Oh ! I so identify with you.

Before I even know I 'm sick, I too get irrational feelings which can really unnerve me. I get scared.

It happens every time ...and then I think afterwards,  Oh! I've got a cold/flu......Oh OK!

Have a rotten one at the moment - too ill to go out to a meeting! So I decided for the first time I would post here! So HELLO everyone! .......Being ill can have it's benefits I guess! biggrin

I too identify with the fact that it reminds me of a hangover.....the laying down for hours.....etc. I can get quite jittery with those feelings......but as been wisely pointed out and which I shall take on board ....This too shall pass ! ! .....Yes and in my HP's time ....not mine! Groan! !

lots of love to my AA family!
And I hope you're feeling better soon Rob.

Louisa

Thanks Guys, thanks a lot.
My brain is slowly coming back online in normal working order. Thanks Louisa!! I thought I was the only one who gets The Crazies before I even know I'm sick!

Welcome to the group, Louisa!

Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone! Now it's back to bed, but first I need to check up on that news story about the crazy fellow who's underwear bomb started a fire in his pants.

Rob

Since it was a Christmas flight, I am wondering if this fellow was the famous "Chet" from the song "Chet's Nuts Roasting On An Open Fire" fame?

F-Troop Back To Normal, Sir!
Oh man....it's so good to feel like myself again! I actually care what I look like now and man, do I look like crap! Big pink abrasion-nose that looks like a bumper-crop of gin-blossoms!

Peace,
Rob

Funny Rob...I can see you going to meetings with that red nose. It's like me when I drink too much coffee and still get the shakes...People are all like "Are you okay?" thinkiing I am brand new on the wagon.

Hi Rob,

i have always thought that the very best part of being sick, if we must get sick, is to appreciate it, when we are not.

That description of your nose, well, made me think, very poor timing.  Could have gone to a meeting with a name tag around your neck, "Rudoph"  biggrin

Well too late now, as they say, Timeing is EVERTYHING,

Just happy you are feeling better.

Have a happy and awesome sober new year, NOT IN Bed, sick....

Toni
