yes im new to this and Im only 3 months sober. It has been a long journey to get here though...I still havent made it to any AA meetings...but I am doing an outpatient program for treatment, i am almost done with that part and now its time to go out on my own like a bird just hatched from the egg of a drunk pool into a sober life...I must!! Please feel free to drop a line of advice on how some of you maintain your sobriety...Sometimes its a struggle for me.

I love this board and come here at much as possible.  I usually give a look at least everyday and post often.  I do  a minimum of three meetings a week and more if I can.  I contact my sponsor everyday, either through email or phone calls or we get together to do step work.  My sponsor has been an amazing source of strength, inspiration, and loving support for me in sobriety.  I do two different "book study" meetings per week, and read a fair amount of AA related literature constantly.  I also use AA and personal prayer daily.  This also has been something that gives me a lot of strength and support, even though it seemed strange and was not a regular thing for me prior to sobriety.

I showed up here wary of other people, I trusted my four-legged friends more than humans, and I can say that through AA I am beginning to branch out, my days are filled more and more with activity with sober people, and these have turned out to be a great comfort and often times down right fun times.  Never would have thought....

Hope to see you around MIP,
Welcome,
Angela

Aloha Nikki and welcome to the board.  You never have to do this alone and you never
have to take another drink if you don't want to.   The suggestions were meetings,
literature, steps, sponsor, work for it and a power greater than yourself.  Sobriety is
yours as it has been ours.  We can and will help along with thousands of others you
will meet on the journey.  You are not alone.   smile

Welcome Nikki !!
Good news ... you dont have to struggle anymore.  More good news ... there are many ppl in AA who are willing to help you on this journey.

Id highly suggest you find some AA meetings in your area and begin attending.  Search for a same sex sponsor who will guide you thru the 12 steps.

The steps are the path to real, lasting, emotional sobriety  smile.gif

Welcome Nikki. I would suggest lots of meetings and definitely a sponsor. Might help to find a women's group if you can and maybe 1 beginners meeting too. I went to 3 beginners meetings out of 6 meetings a week for the first year. Of course it's hard to stay sober at times, but it's always much better than the alternative and never forget that or think things would get better if you "did more research" with alcohol. Just knowing that alone can help a lot.
