confuseThanks to The Common Cold...I have absolutely NO desire drink. Also no desire to work, talk or do anything other than eat & nap.

My 11 year old, however, has the H1N1 and is sentenced to sleep, drink water, eat & repeat.

Dang, I remember Back When I actually thought that 3 shots of bourbon was a "cold remedy". Duhhhhhhh.

Peace,
Rob

Rob, you got it all wrong. Here in Tennessee, it's 3 parts moonshine, 1 part honey, 1 part lemon juice. Warm it up & drink it down.
Of course, you can skip the warming part.
And the honey.
And the lemon.

In all seriousness, I hope you & your 11-yr-old feel better soon.

Thanks for being here.
Keep coming back.

@jasperkent: is moonshine still around there in East Tenn? wow...not that I could have it, since I am powerless over alcohol and all, but still a interesting folk thang.

Rob, hope you and the son are better soon. Keep coming back!

Steve my mountain home is just a mile for the border of East TN. My next door neighbor built his own still this year. Before that he said that he was getting his from the Jr. Johnson clan lol. Believe me it's bigger than ever. The guy that I bought all the wall forms for the ICF construction told me that he knew of several places with drive in service. You pull up a dirt road, leave a $10 under a rock on a tree stump, toot your horn, back up around the corner for a few minutes, drive back up and your quart is on the tree stump for you. lol

Tooo funny...I'm not all that sick and this post made me feel better.  I also hope
that you and your son are aokay soon Rob.   I have never had many colds in
my life but I've had a lot of the remedy.   More than an ounce of prevention...
a pint of prevention or better.   LOL   smile

Darn, have a scratchy throat and the dreaded virus is supposedly making rounds in my neighborhood.  Over here, tequila and lime is the going remedy.
Speaking of cold medicine, I imagine I should look for alcohol content in over-the-counter stuff.  I haven't been sick since sobriety, even if I am not cured of my other illness.  Normally, I would down the niquil and sleep it off.  Think I might eat a whole lemon before bedashamed. -Ang

I'm getting worse and he's getting slightly better. He's out of school all week and I get through the day okay, but I have to substitute my noon meeting for a noon nap. Two people have called me from my home-group asking if I'm okay. The love comin; outta that phone was great!

I'm such a wuss when I get a cold, this I know. A miserable, cranky, drippy, pathetic wuss. Hey, IyamwhutIyam. Peace,

Rob

Haha! Me and angela like minded again...I used to down nyquil so much I would be high all the way through a cold. Nobody could understand how or why I would drink an entire bottle of nyquil each night when I had a cold...substance abuser perhaps? Me? No way. Or so I thought.

No, men aren't wusses. Man flu has a much greater effect on teh male physique than it does on the womans. We suffer more, it's a well klnown fact even if there is no evidence.

What you need to do is ensure that your son isn't playing the hero and trying to make little of this man flu. Set an example, make sure you both get looked after!

(and if i could insert a smiley, I would)

Bill, if you hit the "Reply" , located in any of the posts, (instead of writing in the "Quick Reply" box below) a text box will appear and the smileys are located to the left of the text box. Just click on one and it will appear in the text box where ever you cursor is located. If you have already typed text into the "Quick Reply" box, you can hit the "Advanced Editor" button below and it will take your text to the other reply screen with the smileys. You can also use the symbols colon, hifon, end parenthesees and your smiley will appear smile.gif

smile "It's a well known fact, even if there is no evidence".smile I like that.

The boy is home from school all week and I come home & check on him throughout the day. He is improving, but still not 100%. He has confirmed H1N1 and so far, no one else in the house is showing symptoms. My pregnant wife has had her H1N1 shot.

Bill, I hear ya, man. I've never been a 'trooper' in the face of colds or flu. Now I live in The American Midwest and the social norm & work ethic frowns upon succombing to common ailments. You know, the "suck it up" & "tough it out" mantras.

I don't buy into that rubbish. I'm in sales; if I look & feel like sh** and my attitude is sh** - that's exactly what I'll sell...sh**. If I'm sickly and can't put on a civil face, I got no business being around other human beings.

Well, thanks for the well wishes. I gotta go get my boy to take a shower and change his clothes.

Peace,
Rob

SPD - thanks I knew how to drag a smiley in, but I was using my work computer and there are some firewall issues and other security systems applied that prevent me from doing that. Tonight I'm on my personal laptop.smile

Aqua - amazingly I've developed the same symptoms as you! I set off for a distant site meeting this morning, feeling a bit croaky and a bit runny nosed, spent 3 hours in the winter sun on a rooftop and then drove the 220 miles back home. A twelve hour day all told and by the time I got back, my nose was running in the 3:30, I've all but lost my voice, I'm coughing like 60 a day, bringing up green dag and I ache all over.

As a man and an alkie, I have to blame someone. It's either aquaman's fault or a computer virus!

No No No. It's my fault. I'm the worst codependent of the bunch. I created it, caused it, and I could cure it somehow....I know I could. lol.

Hello, s'mee again, still alive. Nose is running like a tap, got an amazing combination of a wet chesty cough and a dry, throaty cough. But called the NHS Direct and after queationing of symptoms it's confirmed that I haven't got the H1N1 for which I am eternally grateful. Sitting here with teh laptop, coal fire lit and plenty of water.

Getting through my first man flu in sobriety.

Okay - it's Pink's fault. We could take this beautifully dark parody further, but gimme a line and I'll cross it. Both feet. Big Jump. No looking back. Just my nature, so, I gotta be careful.

Unfortunately, I didn't get any better and have now died of a head-cold.
It's kind of nice, really. The congestion doesn't bother me since I have no need to respirate. That whole "voiding of the bowels" when you die thing is a myth. Same pants I had on this morning; no problem. Bad news; the kids say I kinda smell bad. Good news; the dog is much more interested in playing with me now.

No desire to drink, but I have an uncanny craving for braaaaiiiiiinnnnnnssssss.

I assume the H1N1 is the swine flu is it?? I ain't got that, but I do hve a throat and ear infection, and possibly a perforated eardrum in the left ear going on the symptoms, but couldn't see the eardrum for the blood and pus floating around in there.

No wonder it was agony for 12 hours, then suddenly got less painful, but I woke up to see blood on the pillow (At least I got a nights sleep) The antibiotics have started to kick in now I think, not so painful now, but am still sleeping for Engand and doing sweet FA, which isn't bothering me much oddly enough, I normally try and carry on, but I felt crap so I gave in to it.

I shoud be getting my swine flu vaccine on Thursday, I hope an ear infection won't stop me having it, will ask when I get there, cos I have to see doc again before having the jab. Thank God for duvets, central heating and hot water bottles!!!!
