Admitting powerlessness gives us strength. Recognizing our defects relieves us of shame. When we stop trying to sedate ourselves, we experience true serenity.
These seeming paradoxes used to befuddle me, until my slowly awakening brain began to work itself around the concept of grace. If there is anything about the life of this alcoholic that is a paradox, it is the infusion of grace into such an inherently grace-less life. The truth of sobriety emerging from the lies of the disease....how awesome!
