Hello everybody, I am  a 28 year old male from England and have seriously struggled with alcohol since my early 20's, however since I was made redundant in August things have taken the turn for the worst and  have started drinking every day usually into oblivion.
Today however I have had enough of this evil influence ruining my life and have arranged to attend my local AA meeting, I am sitting here typing this feeling nauseous, anxious and extremely jittery and just want this to end.

Welcome aarona!!  So glad you're here.  Try and take it easy.  Breath, breath.  You are heading to a very safe place.  Sometimes, an A.A. meeting is the safest place for me to be.  You don't have to do anything.  You don't have to talk, or sign anything and you can leave anytime you feel you need to.  I've got a feeling you won't.

Please come back and let us know how it went.

Hang in there

Thank you Jane, I am a little anxious going back to my local one as I have attended before. I arrogantly decided that I could make this journey alone and left the group.

Part of what I missed so much from the meetings is the social aspect, when I drink I totally isolate myself and feel so alone.

I smile and respectfully say -- You are not the first and will not be the last.  If people chuckle, when or if you say this in a meeting, it's because they have done it themselves.

Now go and get what works if you work it. wink

Welcome Aarona! No worries, you might feel worse, but you're coming back more convinced that you need and want it. Hence, the response would be even more welcoming and happy to see you. We also need people to come in and tell us exactly why they did come back because it reminds us that the solution is not out there drinking. You have a gift to give just by walking back in the rooms and you might not realize it. So...no need to be nervous and jittery about that. Of course, I'm thinking much of the nervousness and jittery feelings are detoxing, so be easy on yourself but don't drink! ok?

Aaron, welcome to the forum and welcome back to AA - which i suspect is exactly waht you'll get when you go back to the AA Meeting, welcome back!

I understand your embarrasment, but you are bringing experience back to teh rooms - you went and tried to 'drink like a gentleman' and it didn't work - thank you for doing that bit of research for me.

Go to teh meeting, you know what to do and you've proved the axiom of a head full of Aa and a belly full of beer don't work together.

Welcome back and if you are around barnsley, I'll look out for you.

If you're the real alcoholic and you want to stop and are willing to do whatever it takes to do that - then ... yes, by all means, get to the meeting, get a BB, get a same sex sponsor and a God of your understanding, and work the steps.

Dont drink no matter what, get to meetings and pray !!

Welcome- You can do it.

Thanks everyone, I went to a meeting 30 miles away last night, I was extemely nevous but they were great, let me sit there and just listen and afterwards gave me information on the next meeting in my town.
Also having a coffe in the local supermarket was great after having not properly socialized with people for months.
