Happy Halloween everyone. Just wanted to say I hope everyone has a safe and sober, but awesome time. Halloween is one of the hardest nights to be sober (next to new years eve probably the biggest challenge). I just wanted to write a quick post to newcomers and others close to my time in this program. Be cautious. Avoid slippery places. If you go anywhere with Alcohol there, take sober friends. I didn't remember any Halloween for the longest before last year. Last year I was surrounded by AA people looking out for me when we went to a street festival. I had a great time, but it was like overload and I did wind up freaking out and crying to an AA friend after it was over. I had 30 days at that time last year and everything was overwhelming me. Anyhow, I got through that and just wanted to share with you guys who are new to have fun on the holiday, but take it seriously PLEASE! It's not an excuse to make November 1 your new sobriety date...if you are lucky to make it back that quick. Love,
Mark

Thanks Mark for the reminder . This will be another sober Halloween for me and I sure am grateful to be sober . Tucked away at home, Im safe, warm and getting ready to dive into a boiled ham dinner that Ive been cooking all day. I do tho remember many drunken Halloweens in my past Geez, some of the stupid stuff I did. I can really laugh about it today ,lol.
Thanks Pinkchip, I really don't remember where or what I did my last Halloween out, while drinking. The last 10 or so years, my disease had taken me to isolation. Fear of's.... I just never knew if I'd have enough, where I'd end up or with who.
Today, it's just another excuse to eat more than my share of chocolate and hit a meeting. That's what people did for me, so I think I'll pay it forward. Some of my favorite meetings are on the holidays. Thanks Again!!
Good post... yeah, what else is there to do b/w knocks on the door but sip away the evening on a chilled bottle of white wine... all by myself while passing out treats. That was last year..... I had planned to go to a meeting this evening but I do have to treat these little monsters or there will be TRICKS!!! Happy to be home for the night, will shut it all down at 9:30pm for another year. Take care. Carlotta
Oh Soberjulie: I do hope it's not swine but seasonal..... people are freaking out here in Canada, waiting in line ups for hours for the vaccination. Hope you're feeling better very soon. Carlotta
Mark, thanks for the kindhearted warning. It is indeed a slippery holiday for me, even though I used to be drunk 365 days a year. Halloween was always my favorite holiday during my drinking/drugging life. I guess I enjoyed the role-playing and the chaos as much as the party atmosphere.
Tonight I'm just staying home and eating homemade chocolate chip cookies. That's as much excitement as I need now.
I have a lot of gratitude today. I think my new favorite holiday is Thanksgiving.
Just spent it at party playing pingpong with some zombies. No rules extreme pong cause their brains got eaten. I made it three hours and actually had some decent conversations. I don't know if any one else was strickly sober. I think in the past it was probably me that had so get really drunk to deal with groups. I left when it started to get rowdy. The food was good and didn't obsess with the drinking. This was huge. At five months, I still don't think I'll go out and do that all the time, but it was nice to be able to go. Then, I managed to come home and start the NaNoWriMo challenge. Got 1003 words down. 48,997 to go. The fact that I'm still sober and did this on a holiday just floors me. I am grateful for this program, all of you,my sober friends, and this special reminder, Mark.
Sounds like angel had a great Halloween with zombie ping-pong! Hope everyone else had a good one. Mine was great -- handing out treats at the door (Halloween has really caught on over here now, which I'm glad about -- it was my favorite holiday when I was a kid) -- and wife took little man in his pumpkin costume out trick or treating with one of his friends.
And then I had a meeting and yacked with my sponsor who invited me to an American Thanksgiving at his house! :)
