First have to say, No, I am not going on a trip, just have seen so much of the ups and downs of the first months in Recovery, with our wonderful new people here, and wanted to share what my first year felt like, remember is SO very well, it was a roller coaster, and the very best description that I ever found was it was like holding on to the side, very tightly too, of a little row boat, as I sailed the white waters of a fast moving river. And just held on for dear life. That little raft made so many turns and sudden movements, that I could, at times, barely hold on.
But the good news, was that I never got thrown out of the little raft. And then came the clearing, and the rapid motion of those scary waves were all behind me.
Ok that's enough out of me this a.m. Hope that all of the new people here are waking up to a good day, and getting to a meeting. and Talking about what is going on within themselves.
Step One, "We are Powerless over Alcohol.....(to be continues....)
Great metaphor! :) And the great part about AA is that if we fall out of the boat, all we got to do is climb back in again. And being in the rapids makes us remember that it's a lot better in the boat! :)
Great post, I must admit I was a little disapointed though. I thought it was going to be a rafting story. My wife and I went on our first rafting trip last year on one of our first sober vacations. It was a blast, just seeing "white water rafting" on the subject line made me want to do it again...
