I'm on my motorcycle trip with drinking friends and staying in a motel with wifi so thought I would check in and update.

We're two days in and have seen 500 miles of incredible scenery.  It's been almost all small mountain roads, rivers and lakes.  Left Oregon this morning and made it to Redding, California.  5 of us in one room with a beer run as soon as we got here was the first speed bump for me, followed by dinner at a bar.  I excused myself after and found a meeting.  Was a little different than what I'm used to because it was at a nonprofit treatment center and most there had under a month sober.  Was good though, I missed my Tuesday nigh home group meeting this week and needed it.  I checked back in with friends bar hopping but really didn't feel like staying and came back to room.  They have been good about not trying to get me to drink so that helps.

Heading out tomorrow to Lassen (sp?) park with bubbling mud and other stuff I've never seen.  One of the guys dad came and is a "one or two" beer guy and is an early riser so I have someone to hang out with every morning.

Thanks for being here and the words of encouragement.

Jason,
Good to hear from you.  Being sober you'll remember and be grateful for your entire trip.  I remember I went to the Canadian Rockies a few years back.  It was a drunk fest and I was miserable and didn't appreciate the beauty that surrounded me each day.  My memories of that trip aren't pleasant.  Wishing you more pleasant memories than I.

Nice to see you made it to a meeting.  I have a regular meeting that I attend at a rehab.  First two rows are inpatient alcoholics.  I go there to be reminded of where a drink has taken me and also to offer my services as a sponsor to the newcomer.

Keep coming back and help us stay sober.

Jason, good to hear from you, hope you will enjoy your trip and keep yourself safe.

I did a solo trip this year on my bike to Germany, via Belgium and Holland. I didn't manage to get a meeting in for over a week, most of the english speaking meetings in Germany were at american airbases and I hadn't arranged a host, so the MPs wouldn't let me in, but I tried.

Anyway, I was with a bunch of German Beer Monsters. By day 3 I realized there wasn't much in this for me so I took myself off and did my own thing - it's always an option.

I finished my holiday off with a visit to Belgium to see my sponsor,  so we hit the meetings big time.

I've just returned from a holiday in the highlands of scotland - I got one meeting in, but I was glad to get back home again. Got home late tuesday night and hit the meetings wednesday and thursday, planning on going friday and saturday.

It helps me when I'm away to go to the meetings on the same days that I go at home - that way I feel I'm taking my home meetings with me.
