Hi! I wanted to introduce myself.  My Name is Sundee, and I have been dealing with alcoholism for about 5 years.  I don't know how to tell you how it started, but I know it snowballed over the years.  I'm starting a 12 step program, which starts this Tuesday night.  Its 3 days a week for 6 weeks. Was the best I could do since my insurance would not pay for rehab.  Most people have to go kicking and screaming...Me I was doing just that to get in.  I am the sole supporter of a Daughter and Husband.  But even though I can barely pay my bills I make too much, and cant afford to self pay.   I will take whatever I can get to help myself..cause if I dont take care of me no one will.  I found this place, only thanks to God, cause I wanted something I can get support anytime.  I still don't know how I found this.
I'm dealing with a 2nd DUI, and I know things happen for a reason..I think that was really my wake up call.  I don't want my daughter to follow in my footsteps, like I deal with my alcoholic father.  He has been to Rehab 2 times, but I guess he just doesnt want to...I WANT to.  I Detoxed myself...not a fun road, but I did it..I cant stop thinking about a drink, and how to live without it, but hopefully with my new program, and this group, I can do anything, I guess you have to just make up your mind and want it bad enough.  I liked that you had online AA meetings since I'm sure I will lose my licence for about a year, at least I can come here.   If its ok I'll be here Saturday nights, but Tuesdays For 6 weeks I go to my group.  Thank you for having me...I needed to know I'm not alone.  Hugs! Sundee

Welcome Sundee,

There are some awesome people here. I probably don't spend as much time as I should here, but I'm always welcomed... so don't ever be a stranger...

Aloha Sundee!!

I could guess how you found your way here.  If it was the same HP that got me
into program then you've had your first miracle from your HP who also wants you
happy joyous and free.  We live in the present and I'm glad you are here to
share the journey.   Keep coming back.  In support.   smile

Welcome Sundee, you are taking some great steps and showing great courage, open-mindedness, and willingness by coming here.  Thank God that all actual AA meetings are free.  They are likely going to recommend you go to face to face AA meetings in your outpatient rehab.  They might even take you to some to transition you into meetings in the community so you can get started building your own program of recovery.  Only 1 thing I might check into if I were you is where an AA meeting takes place face to face, if there is a clubhouse near you, and go to it while you can still drive yourself.  You will probably find people who will help walk you through getting to meetings with no license and you might find a sponsor which was like finding gold to me early on.  Either way, the steps you are taking now are awesome and meetings here are good too.  It is just that you stated you wanted a place to find support any time...that will come to you even more powerfully as you make a support network in meetings in your hometown.  Not saying any of this to overwhelm you, but just wanted to offer more solutions than you might have thought of.  This site is here for you, but so are probably hundreds of meetings not too far from your front door.  Don't equate "no license = no face to face meetings" because that is not the case.  Since you already believe in a higher power, if it winds up that you have to put yourself out there and ask your fellows for rides at times, that will just expand your support network even greater.  We are here for you on this site, but also in AA meetings  (we being your fellow sober alcoholics who want to help you because it helps us).  You don't have to handle this all alone any more.  You can let us help you on this site, and at meetings wherever you choose to go.  Thoughts and prayers with you,

Mark

HI Sundee,

I hope you find as much amazing support here as I have.  AA everywhere is free to anyone who wants to stop drinking.  I spent money I didn't have desperately on therapy elsewhere, and have discovered the motherload in AA.  Hope to see you around.

Hey I just read Pink's post and I remembered a recovery story that was related to me recently.  It seems appropriate to share here:

A newly sober woman without wheels arranged to wait at pick-up site for a van for an arranged ride to a meeting.  She waited anxiously for awhile, no transportation in sight.  Then said to her HP, I'm going to drink if I don't get to this meeting.  I'll wait awhile longer, X amount of time, if not...! Please help me!!  Just before the timing challenge was up, a man came up and asked if she needed  a ride.  She replied something like, I can't ride with you, I don't even know you.  He said, well then, nice to meet you, my name is Van.  Would you still like a ride somewhere?

This story is one of so many AA wonders that tickle me silly. Thanks

Thank you all So very much for the warm welcome, kind words, and advice.
I have a group session tonight, I'm going to ask if they have a listing of AA meetings.
Thank you again. (Taking it one minute at a time!!)

They should have the list. It's called the "Where and when" and I think its universally put out by intergroup offices everywhere. If not, you can google and find the location of meetings online. Hope all is well today Sundee. Everything will work out :)
