Second meeting

Dear All,
went to my second meeting today and the shares were good. I do not feel able to contribute yet and feel a bit of a phoney, though in reality I have every genuine reason to be there. I am slowly picking up the threads of real living and some of it hurts, my father wishes me to go over to his house on thursday and help him pour home made wine into bottles, I had agreed, I now need to get out of that committment fast, as I am not up to this kind of thing, it would drive me straight back to the pub, I am going to stay in Limerick thursday after work and catch a meeting if possible, and come up with some excuse as to why I can't do this,

good idea. tell your dad the truth, that you've decided to take a indefinite break from drinking and that bottling the wine would be difficult for you. think of someone else that he could ask to help him.

Nicely done.  Avoiding the wine pouring is a good idea.  It would also be helpful to avoid the old playgrounds, playmates and play things for now.  Being truthful is also a very good suggestion.
You may not have anything to offer at the current moment, but you will if you keep going to meetings.  I love to hear the newcomer speak after they find comfort in the halls.  It brings me back to the place I never want to return too.

Aloha Newcomer...In support.  Deans and Mikes suggestions have always worked
best for me.  Keep it short, simple and honest.  Don't second guess it.

put healthy and fun things in their place. outdoor activities are amongst the best especially in the mornings in early evenings. getting in touch with nature and animals really brings your minds focus into the moment. It's only when we are present, in the moment (instead up in our head fretting about yesterday or worrying about tomorrow) that we can feel happy, joyous, and free along with content.

Hi Lorna,

It's OK and sometimes best just to listen for a while, you are helping a lot of people just by being at a meeting.
I can understand the "phoney feeling", but you will grow and learn more everyday sober.

I always heard them say "fake it till you make it" so I did just that.

Take care,
