my sponsor supposedly goes to this 7am meeting. I want to go but it starts in an hour...I have no money or gas so I cant really get there. Do ya think it would be ok to call my "sponsor" at 6am to ask him for a ride? Seems a self evident question but i just dont know anymore. by the time anyone answers this it will already be meeting time....kinda silly.

I think that is reasonable if he is going to a 7am.

A late answer Dods, but I think it was/would have been cool to ask for that ride.  Again, this is your recovery and if your sponsor has any problem with the times you call, he will tell you.  Sounds good that you want to start your day with a meeting.  I should do that more often.

I would have called

As pinkchip said if your sponser has no issues at to which time you call, they'd tell you.

Dods,
I know this is late, but for future reference.  My sponsor and friends in the fellowship go by the motto of "you can't bother us", no matter what.  If your sponsor picks up the phone, he's now responsible for his actions.  If he's bothered, it's his problem, he picked up the phone, not yours.  I believe in this motto and also try to practice it....  Just my thoughts.

well, my sponsor picked up the phone, cause i awoke him, duh. And after about 30 seconds of talking he insisted on picking me up for the meeting. Damn, he is a good man. He picked me up and we went to the 7am meeting, which is a first for me for sure. It was a good meeting. It turned out to be a 1st step meeting and only after did I realize that the chairman (who i say next to) smelled alcohol on me. It was apparently obvious, hence the 1st step meeting. I have learned there is no "bad" time to call my sponsor, and bless that fact. I continue to be amazed by AAers somehow. I know its old hat, but I know I cant stop drinking by myself- no f****** way, I've tried. I am grateful that AA is here for alcoholics, even though that doesnt stop me from drinking tonight, it still gives me a family that wouldnt be there because family and friends stop at some point, but AA always understands and that is quite beautiful.

Dods,
Good for you.  Continue to work the program to the best of your ability.  As long as the desire is there to stop,  AA & the Fellowship will be there with open arms.  Keep coming back and posting here.  Your Experience, Strength & Hope is important to all of us.

Dods- you are right, AA will not keep you from drinking tonight.  But, YOU, your mind, and help from AA can.  You have done it before so realistically step back and take a look, you can obviously do it again.  Just give it another honest try.
