Been outside looking in ---time to come in
Permalink

I have been reading the posts on this website for a little while now - and even tried to sign up-- I must have deleted the confirmation email so I just read what others posted and tried to participate that way (felt a bit like a stalker)- I do feel like I know a few of you already though.

Anyway...I think it is time to come out of the shadows and perhaps take my own seat at the table or turn at the keyboard!

I have lots of conflict in my mind about how to approach meetings etc-- this time. I had 18 years of sobriety - 6 years ago.  I'm definately ready to stop drinking -- definately ready to be a better steward of my own body, ready for the remorse, guilt shame and embarrassment to go away - and ready to find some likeminded people.

The online tool was not available - or maybe I just didn't look for it then -- but I do like it and would like see if it can be a big part in my journey -- I see good quality advice and frequent consistent posters - I think that is important for stability etc.  Also I have seen (read?) true concern and freindship between many of you -- and Humor too!

So, now that it appears I have interviewed the site and posters and found you all acceptable (that is my attempt at humor....) I'll stop being a stalker!

Kelly

KJ,
Welcome.  No problem scouting us out for awhile.  We have nothing to hid.  We're alcoholics who use this site to share our Experience, Strength and Hope in helping one another.  Many of us use this site as a supplement to our AA programs.

Thank you -- I've been anxious about joining--I have moved to a new state and don't know that many people where I live and am some what isolated from others where I live -- and then I travel. Guess I am looking for portable support!

Trouble is that when I go home and am alone that is when I drink. Of course, I drink if there are people around too...but more often than not I am alone.

My boyfriend and I live together and he works on the weekends - I work during the week so every evening we sit and have beers on the porch. We laugh and have a good time , so of course it is still fun--but it has become daily.
His "Friday" night is Sunday and so last night he was happier to stay up a bit later than usual and I drank to much --happens over and over (as one poster said --drink / feel like s%&t / repeat. I was late to work -- and generally am. I feel crappy at work - and am not as productive as I need to be. Same as many others I am sure...

I see the progression, the obsession and utter inability to control myself. I truly want the obsession to go away ---not just the "I want to drink" -- but the "I DON"T want to drink" obsession to go away too! I hate that I spend any time thinking about it when for so many years I didn't have to.

Welcome to MIP, Kelly. I think the cyberspeak term you're looking for is a 'Lurker'!! lol Not much better than stalker I'm afraid lol I've been stalking MIP for 2.5 years now 1Day@aTime & it is a staple in my recovery. I have found such kind & consistant help here & especially the times when I was deep in doubt & struggling with my program. I was touched by your post re weakness & my heart went out for you in your humility. I hope this proves another great new beginning for you. Good luck in getting sober again & I hope you keep coming back to share how you're doing it ;) Happy Trudging, Lady! Danielle x

I too am a newcomer to the sight--have been wanting to do some online AA so here I am. Am not a new comer to AA but recently came back after a relapse of several years. BOY is it good to be sober again. Part of the reason for going online is because i live in a rural area so our group is rather small. Wanted to hear and talk to a larger group. "what we have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintence on our spiritual condition". AA saved my life.

Grateful to have you back home again kj...where ever you came from and where
ever you are at.  You've brought out the best in some of the membership and so
you are not alone.  The reason we do this hasn't changed since you left.  You'll
find the chair fits perfectly well.

Insupport.  (((((hugs))))) smile

hi KJ
being around others who are drinking can make getting sober more difficult.  one thing that helps me is i keep juices and sodas on hand.  i will make a tall cold glass of a juice mixture (i like pomegranate juices) and poor club soda or 7up in it to 'make it special' to treat myself.  my husband has joined me in my special drinks now instead of me joining him in drinking beer.  it is healthier and no more headaches in the morning.  big hugs and heartfelt prayers

Thanks JJ --- sounds like we have a few things in common- does your husband go to meetings with you too or has he just joined in on the special drinks?

Hi Kelly, I enjoyed sharing with you at the online meeting.  I realized I never gave you a "nice to meet you" message here, so welcome to the boards.  Hope your at the meeting next Sat.  I could try my best to lead or we could do some PM's to set it up together, so that it actually happens,(assuming you saw Dean's note that he will not be available.)
