WOW Rick-- this is my first time here on A.A., as I've been attending Alanon for about two years now on occasion. Found the Alanon site about a year ago and have been there, but have always been curious about the insightfulness of that alcoholic and wanted to go to an A.A meeting just to listen. I just rarely have time, trying to raise my two children as a single mom. Anyway, recently my daughter had a sudden change in behavior with drinking, as she never drank before and we even struggled the last 4 years from age 11-15 to stabilize a sudden seizure disorder that developed in her. She had always been naive, vulnerable, having had learning disabilities throughout most of her life because of this seizure disorder that I knew nothing about until it hit us suddenly at 11 years old. She portrayed psychosis like symptoms, in which eventually led to seizures where she would lose consciousness. NOW, with the alcohol involved-- I'm at a loss, just trying hard to understand what it going on in her mind.
The most difficult part about all of this is that if there was a resource available, we've been actively involved-- individual and family counseling for the past 9 years, in which two of those years we were in for 2-3 times per week as a family (the three of us, my son also) and on each of our own time with separate counselors. Additionally, we became active members of our church and my children (including my daughter) even made her confirmation last year. I had been so proud of her. This sudden behavior scares me, as it is not like her and so I'm here reading the posts of some just hoping to get some more insight from that side.
