Nose bleeds

I have been drinking a 6 pack of beer a day for a couple years now and I just spent two days with zero alcohol. This morning I had a nosebleed. First nose bleed in probably twenty years. I wasnt pickin it or anything. Y'all think it could be related to cutting consumption to zero beers?

Hello shedcrazy,

it's hard to tell, it's possible. I'd think about going to your doctor and telling him what you're doing and let him check you out.

Yeah, perhaps so. I feel pretty good, otherwise. No dt's or freaky stuff. Just that nose bleed, difficulty sleeping and maybe some foggy headedness which is funny because thats why I stopped to begin with.

you could experience the foggy headedness for awhile. do a search on this forum (or google) for PAW or post acute withdrawal. Get a copy of Terri Gorski's book "Staying Sober" a guide to relapse prevention

Hi Shed!

Welcome to the Board!

I will say this, I have in the past, when quitting drinking, felt DRY as a bone for periods of time after putting the Plug in the Jug. Dry mouth, nasal passages, throat, etc. Try drinking a lot of water, and taking some vitamins too, drink gatorade to help replace those electrolytes we lose when we are dehydrated. That should help you retain some GOOD fluids.

I will say this, I am not prone to nosebleeds either, but I have had a few lately. I think it's my sinuses, maybe.

Take care and again, a warm welcome.

Joni

Could be blood pressure and it could be related to not drinking...maybe, maybe
not.  Don't try to fix it yourself go look for help.  Good luck.

so, hey. My plan was to, you know, cut back. drink here and there. I have quickly decided that that is a buch of crap. I am really really tired of drinking. The favor I used to drink for is less and less and it takes more and more to get that blip. I am done.

Here's a AA meeting schedule for Ft. Collins   smile.gif
It's recommended to attend 90 meetings in 90 days.  I did it and so have many sober people on this board.  This gets us into a routine of staying sober and out of the routine of drinking.  It's an hour a day.   If you have an AA club, it's easier to get to meetings there as you don't have to consult a meeting schedule as meetings are several times a day every day.  Have fun with it.

I went to my first meeting (this go round) last night and will be back tonight. Thanks for the schedule. I picked one up last night along with a sponsor and a couple of fellas to chat with.

Wow, Shed, your batting 1000! Make going to meetings fun somehow. ride a motorcycle or go to meetings in an area that you like, maybe a urban area, or near a park, river.... Keep going to as many different meetings, make regular ones out of the rooms that you feel most comfortable in. If you don't like a meeting or the people in it, don't go back for awhile. You live in an area with a lot of meetings, take advantage of it.
Make a 12 step meeting a weekly must attend. Find a men's meeting. Find a saturday morning, and friday meeting at an AA club. Check out various noon meetings and brown bag you lunch. I particularly liked the 5:30 pm meetings right after work. Lot's of good sobriety and professionals attend these and I found it really inspirational to see all of these highly functional people making time for to take care of their sobriety.
It dispelled my notions that somehow "I don't have time for a daily meeting". smile.gif

i enjoy the 5:30 meetings. it's perfect. 5:30 is beer:30 for me and to feel it with a meeting is soooo helpful. Had a guy nab me up first day and make me his sponsee (fucker) He's a good dude and perfect for my bull head. My wife laughed when I told her the kinda guy he was. She said, perfect. anyways, I'm 4 days sober, still craving but feel positive.

This site may have been a life saver for me. Not sure I would have went back to AA had I not discovered this place. I was just looking for withdwral symptoms as pertaining to nosebleeds. God works in mysterious ways, does he not?

There were times the love & support I got here helped me accept the messages of A.A. One or two times I had major resistance & MIP helped me so much. Keep coming back, dear Shedcrazy! Danielle x
