going for 2 hr DUI evaluation this morning

since im out of state i need to have a 2hr evaluation instead of the one hour - boyfriend will be my character witness
this DUI was from switching seats with an old boyfriend few months back - now im doing the time for him and paying his fines
HOWEVER in just the past few days im starting to think alcohol just may not be good for me - also going through a divorce currently
wish me luck at the evaluation - i just might surrender and tell them i actually do need help - too much stress right now - affecting me physically and emotionally - or will i regret making myself feel not as strong as i should?

Hey Florida,
You probably need to take some time and do some research about this program. It sounds like your life is pretty complicated. If you want to quit drinking, this is the place to be. It sounds simple but if you read through this forum, you will find how different people have gone many different ways. Come back and tell us more and you will get lots of advice. The 12 step program works pretty well. Good luck!
Tom

That doesn't sound like fun. I hope things turn out better for you and I hope the evaluation goes ok. Stay positive.

Welcome to MIP, Barbara. I hope your evaluation went well however that may mean. I heard a story just recently by one of our fellowship early in recovery saying how he'd had this & just told the truth about his being an alcoholic & that he was now attending meetings. He was the second or third to introduce himself at the evaluation & then after him everyone else started to speak more honestly & just face the facts of their experience without trying to dress anything up or justify themselves. There's one thing trying to make ourselves feel better but it's quite another if we're lying to ourselves about the nature of our problems.

A.A. is teaching me how to be realistic about my liabilities & though I don't have to hate myself for them the only way I can change anything is to address it honestly in the first place i.e. in Step 1. 'I was powerless over alcohol & that my life had become unmanageable.' If you think you have an issue with alcohol, Barbara regardless of the outcome of your evaluation, you are very welcome here to explore it further. Please feel free to post & find out more about what AA & our fellowship may have to offer you. Danielle x
