Celebrating 36 years of continuous sobriety... My Anniversary date is January 12, 1974..the day I walked through the doors of AA that cold Saturday morning in Marblehead Mass...

My last drink that respective morning...so AA has indeed worked for me..and continues one day at a time provided I put my sobriety as priority One.

Sobriety and AA has given to me a new wonderful life. Many old acquaintances who new me prior to AA, who I had occasion to recently reconnect with .. are indeed surprised that Im still alive and healthy.

I am blessed and believe that anyone who works the program and practices the principles are similarly blessed.

Its simple but at times not easy.

I dont need any congradulatory expressions..My intention was simply to express if it worked for me..It can work for you...Its a program for people who want it , not a program for people who need it

Tomas

I got this idea from the NA board, which has 3 pages of replies, most of which are less than a year.

Mine is July 25th, 1989.  I got sober at the Unity Club in Falls Church, Va.

My real name is Bernie S. I had my last drink on December 1, 1997. I sobered up in the Downtown Dartmouth Group in Dartmouth, NS Canada and at an online group called the Lamplighters Group. I am currently a member of DDG but I haven't always been a member. I am co-founder of Serenity Corner Group, Hilltop Group, Woodside Group, and the Trailer Park 12 and 12 Step Study in District 2, Area 82. I am a regular contributor to the AA Grapevine, and co founder of two online groups, The Three Legged Stool and The Elevator is Broken. Not a bad bio for a guy who's only been here a week and doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. But sometimes we shouldn't we so quick to judge. I know I'm still working on that one myself. Have a great day, unless you have other plans.

My name is Ellen and on May 5, 1985 I had my last drink so I'm close to a 25th anniversary now. Don't congratulate me, though, because I'll just tell you to congratulate my Higher Power, who keeps me sober. I don't take the credit myself. :)

I got sober at the SOS club in Salem, Oregon and my home group was the Tough Love group. I've moved around a lot since then but my Higher Power goes with me everywhere and still keeps me sober.

noHI DEAN, I HAD A LOTOF TROUBLE GETTING ON THE SITE BUT WHAT WAS HAPPENING WAS I DIDN'T USE A CAPITAL FOR MY NAME.IT TOOK ME SUCH A LONG TIME TO ACCEPT I WAS ALCOHOLIC, N IN AND OUT OF A.A FOR YEARS, THINGS GETTING WORSE, ALL THE "YETS" WERE STARTING TO HAPPEN TO ME AND A LOT MORE TO BOOT. I FELL THROUGH A GLASS DOOR IN A BLACKOUT, IN A HOUSE FULL OF SELF CONFESSED ALKIES AND I WAS IN SUCH A MESS, THAT IF I HAD CUT THE WRONG VEIN, I WAS DEAD.  I GOT HOME TO MY OWN FLAT, OR MY HELLHOLE AS I CALL IT NOW AND COULD NOTGO OUT FOR TWO WEEKS.  THIS WAS THE END, AND AFTER A FEW MEETINGS AND A LOT OF SHARING, READING THE "DOCTORS OPINION" AND "MORE ABOUT ALCOHOLISM", GETTING A SPONSOR AND GETTING ON THE PROGRAM I WAS ON MY WAY TO RECOVERY. I HAVEN'T MENTIONED MY "HIGHER POWER" YET I KNOW NONE  OF THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE IF I HAD NOT HAD THE CLOSE LIASON I HAD AND STILL HAVE TODAY.  lOVE     biggrin MARJIE

My Sobriety Date is January 31, 2010 at home after a bad night of drinking.  One of many mornings of regret.  The only difference is this morning I decided to take action.  Drinking was no longer an option.  The next two months went by pretty quick and found myself thinking a drink wouldnt hurt on a Saturday night.  I found this message board that night and signed up to become a member after reading the posts .  The next day I went to my first A.A. Meeting (April 10, 2010) and found the support I needed to stay sober one day at a time.

Sober since 17/May/1990.

Can't believe it's been that long, and I'm that much older aww

God Bless.

Thanks for the welcome, and the 'congrats'.

It's odd that my past birthdays haven't had me thinking as much as this one has. It's the same as all the others. Milestones, though, are what we shoot for -- be it 1 hour, or 1 year -- if I drink today, it's all for naught.

Will check in with a proper intro after I've made it through my upcoming milestone.  smile.gif

I got sober at Radford Clubhouse in Studio City, California.

One of my favs is: you can't save your ass and your face at the same time.

I don't know about anyone else but I love the AA sayings.  They save my life, my sanity, my serenity on a daily basis.

For those who don't want to do the math, I'll be 25 in less than 2 months.

August 28, 2008.

First meeting (and one of two home groups) was "How Important Is It" in Washington Township, NJ.

I went to my first meeting the day after my last drink, having carefully detoxed at home over the previous four days.  I remember saying something like, "My name is Lexie and I think I'm probably finally ready to admit I'm an alcoholic."

I'd been around AA for a long time (in support of others, who qualified me for Al-Anon), but I always thought it was great for them, but I, of course, was different.  Not.

My obsession to drink was, thankfully, lifted immediately.  Life is better sober.

how do you detox?  I want to start detoxing as soon as possible. I have been drinking a bottle of wine almost every day. I have tried so many times to stop. I function ok during the day, but i am not happy. I need help, but i live in a small town and i will not go to meetings or avoid my drinking friends because I am going through a divorce and I need them.
oops this is about Birthdays..sorry. I don't have one yet.

Hi there,

I believe I registered here some time ago, but I've only posted once or twice, if that. I received a "please come on by" email the other day, and decided not to look a gift-horse in the mouth. Or a big nudge from my Higher Power. Anyway, here I am again, hoping to participate more.

I'm an alcoholic, and my name is Christine.

My date of sobriety is August 20, 1995.

April 28, 1986. My first meeting was a breakfast meeting, that I went to every Sunday for a Month or so, but I spent my early recovery at Miracle Hall in Auburn, WA.

6-14-2010  Common Spirit, a women's group in the state of Washington was my first AA meeting.  Huge fan of the 12 steps, they've caused me to be upwardly mobile instead of down and out, and massively grateful for the MIP message board for fostering my continuing growth.

This is my first reply.  My "birthday" is April 23, 2010.  I am coming up on 7 months of sobriety and can hardly believe it.  I look forward to celebrating many, many more.  Sometimes I pinch myself in the morning upon wakening as I am so happy I am not the drunken nobody I was turning into.  I have to pray for strength everyday.  This forum is just what I need.  It is great to read all of the comments and thoughts - helps me to stay strong and realize I am not alone.

Thank you!!!

My sobriety date is Feburary 21,2010. I'm 57 years old and unfortunately I've had several sobriety dates since my first AA meeting in 1985. Only when I work the steps, pray and go to meetings am I able to keep from drinking. Had 6yrs.(1990-1996) but put "the almighty dollar" first and of course........drank again. I get the "illusion" of control when I get away from AA and service with other alcoholics. I need you guys and Gods grace to live. In my lifetime, I've been convicted of 13 DUI's here in California. Thanks for being here. This beats the hell out of Facebook!

I'm an alcoholic my problem is Bill
I first got sober in Pahrump NV outside of Vegas  on 11/01/99
I got sick a little over three years ago and  my new date is 12/15/07
I now live in Reno NV where I make 7 to 10 meetings a week, I know that meeting makers dont nesseseraly make it, but it sure does help.
