How is our board doing?

Please respond in this thread, what you like and what you'd change if you could.  Question 1.)  Do you enjoy the numerous daily readings that are posted? 2.)  Which ones do you like?   3.) Should we keep all of them, or pair them down a bit to make more room for E,S&H  and I have problem staying sober theads?  Any other suggestions or comments?   If you don't feel comfortable  posting your thoughts here please send me a message.  smile.gif

I enjoy some of the daily reading, when it fits! And for any new ideas/ incentives...

It is a good board.  Contraversy is completely minimized to non existant, but that is ok  for the kind of needs this board has.  It keeps it in a support mode.

It would be nice if a new comment is made to an old thread that it could be brought forward. Not sure if there is a method to the madness so it doesn't really matter to me, just a thought. Not doing that keeps you looking forward in a way, rather than looking backwards...

All in all the board is a thumbs up~
: )

I think this board is amazing and am glad I found it.  The only suggestion I can come up with is more posting from people with time.  I would like to hear more about what things were like, what you did, and how things are different now from people with multiple years of sobriety.  I'm not sure if this is the place for that or how much people want their personal stories on the internet, but that would be nice to hear.  Stepping back, I think the best thing we do on here is give some hope and direction to people who are afraid to go to meetings and afraid to call the hotline.  If we can help 1 person realize AA is going to help them, the board is truly "a miracle in progress." I love readings from the language of letting go because they are uplifting and applicable to the first 3 steps I am working on.  All in all, I think you guys are doing a great job here and I'm inspired by all of you.

Dakota, go into your "settings" and change the topic display to "last responded to" or something like that.
The default option is what you have.

For everyone interested, there is a drop down option at the bottom right of the main page where you can choose the option to have posts listed by last modified. This is my default setting so I need never miss a post. I would like to read more posts on how members use the 3, 7 & 11 prayers in daily living although A.A. has always given me the encouragement to lead by example. I tend to do alot of reading & don't want to spend too much time posting as this can take me easy several hours a day so I try to stay pertinent. I am grateful to everyone who shares ES&H here for newcomers & regulars alike. All your contributions mean so much. I post the Daily Reflections & Hazelden everyday to help me keep disciplined & in with the message to help me stay sober though I am aware they're not read by very many. I like that they keep the board up to date. Maybe I could just do one & make it the DR as these are confirmed approved A.A. literature. Thanks for inviting feedback, Dean. I love MIP & will keep coming back :) Danielle x

Hi all!!!!
I personally feel that anything appropriate can go on this board...Take what you need and leave the rest!!! If there is a certain daily I enjoy, I am sure to read it ...

For now, all is well and I wouldnt change a thing!

In the rooms we ask, "Is there anybody having a problem staying away from a drink today?"  Those are the most important topics.  Next in importance for me are questions or misunderstanding and the newer the comer the higher the importance.  The daily readings almost never come up to my threshold of importance to read in this forum.

Like the question idea.

The asking of that question is direct and causes you to have to answer it directly if you are going to at all.  It is the point of MIP, to get people to stop and think, and share if you will.

Keep those comments coming folks. I think what we're focusing on is the content displayed on the first page, as most people don't go looking to previous pages. With that said, either we're looking At reducing the amount of daily readings, and/or reducing the amount of space that they take up on the page.

One way we can do that is to keep the daily readings in one thread each, where the person maintaining the thread would edit each day and add that days' reading. Perhaps keeping two or three days readings and adding and deleting one per day. This could be stickyed so that all the threads below would be more along the lines of Experience, Strength, and Hope or those asking for help/advise etc... and it would be more organized.

A permanent "sticky spot" set up for readings... Hmmm.... Now that is a great idea. For those who wish to read them, they will be easy to find, and for those who don't it will be easy to spot the rest without 'wading' through. I personally never read past page 1. No particular reason, just don't.....

Dean,
One thing I've rather missed....
Phil's humor. He always had a joke here and there. To me it cut some of the edge off the seriousness of the reason we are all here. He always seemed to have instinct on when to throw in those zingers WITHOUT taking away from the wisdom/advice/shares, ect. Laughter seems to make people feel more comfortable. Thus, opening up and sharing.......
What can we do to get him to throw in a few now and then?

Hi guys,

Thanks Dean for your dedication, I have a good idea about the time and effort required to moderate a board, it is a noble thing to do, no question. I get most of these readings delivered by email everyday so don't read them here. A simple google led me to all of them. he people on here are wonderfull I think. I get a sense of such honest, heartfelt and helpfull info here, from real people, just like me. In some ways, responding to topics and comments is like journaling. Very therapeutic and just what the doctor ordered for us healing people. I like it here....a lot!

PS. thanks for the tip about the "settings"

I like Deafhawk's suggestion about posing the question. Like a daily check-in. I think the readings are great too but I really like Dean's idea of grouping them in one thread.

I've gone ahead self-will run riot following some suggestions here already & stuck DR&24 up there. Just for me for now out of habit & a great desire to do it but I can stop or carry on at any request when we've come to an agreement. I hope you all don't mind. I'll brace myself for change. I would also like to see The Language of Letting Go stay up there too so any more ideas are still welcome, Danielle x
