Fourth Dimension of Existence p.25

Nobody got rocketed anywhere in the physical world until the 1960s.  So, the writer in the 1930s who wrote we have been rocketed into a fourth dimension of existence wasnt referring to transportation, he was referring to transformation.  It is easy for us who have seen men walk on the moon to miss that.  We are not alone in missing the spiritual dimension. Jesus of Nazareth spoke of The Kingdom of God which is within.  That dimension is also written in the Torah, the Dhammapada, and the Tao Te Ching.  Others have been missing it for a lot longer than we have been missing it in the Big Book.  The people who have not missed it are called masters and mystics.  We are living in that dimension whether we are aware of it or not.  The fourth dimension is real, it exist, everywhere, all the time.  Egos cannot enter the fourth dimension because egos are that part of our mind that think we are separate and in the fourth dimension we are in unity .  On page 25 and many other pages of the Big Book, the writer (a salesman first and foremost) is touting the benefits of recovery to give the reader a reason to continue reading. Recovery is getting your ego aside and shrinking your ego so that the real you can enter the fourth dimension and know it.  The Big Book is written to low bottom drunks not to metaphysical scholars.  That is why the higher meanings are easy to miss but they are certainly there.

Our message is This is what we did to recover.  If you want to recover, do what we did.  What we did and what you do, in the physical world, causes things to happen in the spiritual realm (the fourth dimension).  At some point you will become awake to what happens in the spiritual realm Spiritual Awakening.  So to the newcomer who cant understand anything that is happening at meetings, know that there is a lot happening in the fourth dimension that you are very much a part of but cant yet see.  For the religious person accustomed to being told what he/she should/should not do and being judged by doing/not doing, know that there is no judgment in the fourth dimension and that we are human beings not human doings.  It isnt religion that we dont want in AA it is the judgment that we dont want in AA because we dont need it where recovery really happens.

This is great!!  Thank you!!  I'm going to have to read this several times, because there is so much for me to ponder.  It is all good!!!  I've often wondered about the Fourth Dimension and I like what you wrote here.

May I share what you have written with some of my friends?

What is that story of the mustard seed? (thanks for that Deafhawk)

It is true that when you can get the old judging ego out of the way then you can do some serious soul work. To deny the spirit is to deny life. It exists alright. And life is growth continuum, in the physical world we clearly see a beginning and an end, but seems like there is more so much more we don't know beans about.Great topic

Very nice Greg. The thing that gets me out of my head and into the spiritual realm the quickest is contact with nature. I meditate briefly about having some contact with nature and then go for a walk early in the morning. Almost always some animal will present themselves in close proximity. Here in FL, it's usually a waster bird, in the NC mountains it's usually a deer. I look at them and think about only love and how beautiful they are and they respond by coming closer or just lingering and making direct eye contact.

I also get a big charge out of watching the sunrise, set, tides, and the moon following me. It's all so much bigger than the trivia that the committee in my head is regurgitating.

You know there are a lot of people up North who haven't seen the sun in a couple months and it wont be any fun to go outside for a couple months more. (The day after Christmas 1966, I stepped off an aircraft in Miami and asked - Why the hell does anybody live in Ohio? I still haven't figured it out) For them I should say that all I do be I Am, the spiritual being who is having my human experience, is breath. First I feel and place my awareness in breathing in. Then I do the same with breathing out. Then, I become consciously aware of the moment between breaths. Guess what, that is the NOW moment, and is the only time that is important. In the NOW moment there isn't anywhere for my thoughts to wonder off to - they have to go to the future or the past to wander off and if my consciousness is in the NOW moment my thoughts will stick around more.

This is a wonderfully uplifting topic, Greg. Thankyou for your insights & how you've encouraged others to share in theirs. I've learned how to practice my Step 10 & 11 daily over the weekend at our Conscious Contact Retreat. We looked at the Two Way Prayer method that the AA Founders discovered being used in the Oxford Group where we have quiet time in the morning & write down thoughts as they come for a period of time. These will then be checked against the 4 Absolutes of Honesty, Unselfishness, Love & Purity. We take anything that fits these as God's will for us even if we're not sure on the meaning & then look at these again at the end of the day for anything that has been revealed as the day went on.

It's a personal process & again, we're to check our thinking with someone else who is also following the practice to help that we're not doing self will rather than God's will lol This process has helped to bring the structure I was desperate for in doing my step 10 & praying constructively daily. The difference now is that I don't have to wait until the end of my day to do my inventory. I can begin with guidance in the morning & then review before bed. It's been only a few days & already the quality of my life has improved again. I was entering into a dark place just last week & my self obsession was running high.

From using this technique I have realised that a crucial prayer for me is 'To pray to be less than'. Not in a self punishing or detrimental way. My God loves & cares for me as I give to It esp in my Step 7 prayer. The difference is that as I pray to be less than I am knocking my ego out of the competition, the constant striving I did before of trying 'To be equal to' where in effect I was giving myself the message that I was not enough & inferior to which risked me operating from a position of need & scarcity. Praying to be less than has entered me into the Fourth Dimension & the peace is amazing. I know I am loved & being taken care of.

This is now the source I can use to give to others. It is in self forgetting that one finds :) Great topic. I'll be forwarding your words to my guy, Carl. Thanks, Greg. If anyone is interested I can seek out & post a little more on the subject of Two Way Prayer. Danielle x
