Meeting- She questioned my faith.

Went to Celebrate Recovery.  Went to small group for chemical dependency.  In the meeting we discussed our experience and I talked about how I had gone away from God after growing up in church.  I talked about how I am finding my way back and rediscovering my faith.  One of the girls inthe group spoke up and said that she believed that a lot of people thought they were saved because they said a prayer but had not surrendered to God and that these people would still die and go to hell.  I felt like she was talking to me and essentially telling me that even though I believed myself to be saved years ago that I was not as I developed alcohol and self will issues later in life.  I was a little put off by this...

Hey Co-
Sound like a little religion going on here and AA does not do religion.

Anyway, anytime someone says something that disturbs me, I take my own inventory.  Might find something true in what they have said and may not, but at least I've taken a look and can take the necessary steps to correct or adjust.

Today it's not about what I think people are thinking, but it is about what am doing what I'm supposed to be doing.

Coda2, there's nothing wrong with with going back to your faith or starting in a new one, but the specifics of
that aren't something that we discuss because we wouldn't want anyone to feel left out because their beliefs (or lack of) are different. We look for spirituality in a higher power of our own understanding and that's personal. Many of us that come through door have lost some or all of our faith, or never had any to begin with. Talk of religion (which AA is not) could cause a great many of us to walk right out the door on the first day.

As for your concern, Imo, I don't thinks it's right for anyone to question your faith, unless you specifically ask a clergy man for assistance with it.

Sorry.  I forget that Celebrate Recovery has a different component than AA.
Forgive me if I offended anyone.  I offer my sincere apologies.

Please stop being so hard on yourself coda...recovery is for you and just feel good about what you are doing every day.  Don't worry about others.  You are just where you are supposed to be.
